Forage Edible Plants & Mushrooms
Find out what you can eat in the woods! We'll hike in the lovely Santa Cruz mountains where I'll guide you on a beautiful, quiet 1-2 mile walk in the unique coastal oak & redwood forest. Together we'll learn the ancient ways of identifying edible and medicinal mushrooms, plants, roots, flowers, nuts and seeds (depending on the season. Mushrooms come out after the rains and fruit through winter, sometimes into spring). Along the way we'll discuss proper harvesting and preparation techniques while connecting to the beauty and abundance of our ecosystem. This experience is a fun, hands-on way to connect to what can feed, heal and harm us in the wild. You'll walk away with a whole new appreciation and understanding of nature! The hike is doable for all skill levels. See you on the trail! Other things to note: Secure your own transportation to The Buttery and we'll caravan to the hike start. Bring: layers (it can get chilly in the redwoods), water bottle and comfortable hiking shoes. Optional: hiking poles, camera, hat, sunglasses. Interested in a private group or offsite for your business team? Get in touch with me at info@MountainSeaAdventures.com
ATV Adventure to Granite Indian Baths
We'll give a quick safety instruction before putting helmets on you and matching you up with one of our ATVs. We'll then head up the trail and show you breathtaking and unmatched views of the valley. We'll take you to a few hidden gems including large granite slabs with baths carved into them called 'Indian baths' and cave with petroglyphs. Guests can either choose to drive an ATV or be a passenger on one. Times and dates are flexible. Other things to note Bring a hat, sunblock, water, and snacks. Makes sure to dress appropriately for the weather.
Intimately experience a biodiverse farm
We'll start by foraging through the farm to make a diverse "goat salad." We'll walk through the garden, stop to admire the beehives, meet the pigs, and then feed and pet our silly goats and adorable Babydoll sheep. Once our goats and sheep have had their salads, we’ll hand feed our gentle dairy cow, Harper, some of her favorite treats. After washing off any cow slobber, we'll treat you to a light seasonal farm picnic. You'll then walk off those calories by taking our miniature horses for a stroll, and you'll pet and feed these sweeties. Following our horse experience, we'll step in with the chickens and ducks. We'll feed them organic hen scratch and farm greens, if available. We'll watch them happily scratch around and quack and coo, and you can hold and pet them if you’d like too. While they’re scratching around, we’ll step into the coops to check for eggs. We'll compare the various types, shapes, colors, and sizes. We'll finish our experience with a calm and relaxing visit with our bunnies. We'll pet and feed these sweet and soft fur balls. All along the experience, you will learn fun facts about our diverse plant and animal family, and you’ll leave with a seasonal farm gift. Other things to note: Wear comfortable closed-toed walking shoes and clothes you don't mind possibly getting a bit dirty. Boots and long pants are ideal. *Great for teams and team-building too!
Beginner Surf Lesson - Santa Cruz
Beginner Surfing l is our popular 2.5-hour group surf clinic. So what will you be learning? This clinic was designed with the beginner in mind – we welcome complete newbies as well as people who have tried surfing on their own for a while and still need help. We will walk you through all the basics to get you started and catching waves! There will be a short land-lesson to start, and after that we'll head out to catch some waves. You'll get approximately 1:30-2 hours of "water time" in the 2.5-hour class. Maximum ratio of 4 students per instructor. FAQ: Why are some of these class times SOOO early?! Answer: When it comes to surfing, mother nature sets a lot of the rules - that's what makes it such a unique sport. If we don't go on the right tide, we won't get any waves! While those early morning sessions might be hard to wake up for, they are also truly magical. Great surf conditions, no wind, no crowds - it is about as epic as it gets. If you make the commitment go early, we can promise you'll be rewarded with the experience of a lifetime!

Our "Make Honey Wine" class will hopefully be available soon. Give us a buzz @ 925. 852 and 9900 with questions :) Times are based on when bees are the happiest (when the field bees are out gathering nectar & pollen). TO BOOK: Enter the # of Adults & Children that may be coming. Our base rate is $210, which covers up to 2 adults & 1 child (3-12 years old). To receive a lower rate, bring friends or family and your individual ticket price drops. Since we’re a 501c3 non-profit your ticket is tax write off! All funds help grow the local bee population :) DETAILS: This is a fun opportunity to get to inspect a busy beehive! First, we’ll suit up in protective gear. Then we’ll head to the Apiary where you'll learn about the art of beekeeping & the various tools used. Now it's time to inspect a hive. Hold a frame covered with 100's of bees ... a great photo opp! Create Japanese origami art
Join me on one of the popular culture in Japan. We can create Japanese origami. It's hard for beginners to make some origami crafts by yourself even while watching YouTube. I instruct how to fold them. I prepare origami papers that have some pattern (kimono, sky, plaid, babble, stars, of course single colors also. You choose your favorite paper and figure. I have some samples of figures, if you have no ideas what you want to make. (Level1: heart, level2: Flapping wings bird, level3: jumping frog, level4: Japanese kimono, level5: three-dimensional flower) If you have a target of origami arts, let me know before 1 week your appointment. I research how to make it by the day. Basically I held this experience outside that is in front of building. But If it's chilly, raining or you prefer inside, I can arrange the place to inside. If you want experience on Weekends, don't hesitate to ask. I can try to arrange the schedule. You don't need any materials. Just bring your motivation!

Alpaca Experience - Learn and Hike with Furry Friends
Less than a 30 minutes from Monterey Bay, this experience, for 12 years olds and up, includes learning about alpacas then a trek/hike around the farm while leading your own alpaca! We begin in the Tuscan inspired barn, housing our horses and friendly donkey, "Jack". "Alpacas 101"-a 45 minute interactive talk regarding: origin, use, fleece, biology, breeding & behavior, helps you become an "Alpaca Expert"! Next each person pairs with an alpaca to start our trek. The trail starts through a wooded ravine, across a bridge, then adjacent to a 2,000 acre ranch where you will see beautiful vistas of the surrounding hills and mountains of Carmel Valley. We stop under a large oak trea for refreshments where we interact with the alpacas. Continuing on the trail we go back to the pastures, passing horses, alpacas, goats and more stunning views of the Valley. There will be ample opportunities to engage with your furry friends and take photos of the landscape as well as the alpacas. Other things to note: the Alpaca Trek is not suitable for children under 12. Must be able to physically walk/hike up a moderately sloped trail while leading 150+ pound alpaca. Wear proper shoes for hiking. Running shoes/sneakers are ok. We will still go on the trek if there is light rain-so if this is the forecast bring rain hats/ponchos. Be sure to bring your camera or smartphone to take lots of photos!
Jewelry in the fusing technique
Did you know that glass, no matter how hard it may seem in our usual state, can turn into almost liquid when heated? This is its property and is the basis of the technology of my master class with a mysterious name. It allows you to change the shape of the glass when heated and melt different glass elements into one. Everything seems quite simple, but it only seems to you) Fusing technology is very deep and multifaceted. Come to my master class and see for yourself! You and I will cut and collect from colored glass faces in the style of Pablo Picasso. After assembly, your products are annealed in a special furnace to purchase lollipop smoothness. You can make a pendant or brooch from finished products.
Cooking and Dining on Paradise Mountain
My French mother, former chef at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, taught me to cook. I, also, worked there while attending UC Berkeley. My specialty is "French Provincial" cuisine but I also teach a lot of Homestyle Italian Cookery. I owned a catering business for 15 years and now teach cooking. Guests will join me in my indoor and outdoor kitchens on a mountain to prepare a three course meal from scratch, using the amazing ingredients from this area including farm produce, smoked sausages, fruit from neighboring orchards and fields...Following this they will dine on an expansive deck surrounded by majestic, towering redwoods to enjoy the food they've prepared and my husband and I will serve them their meal and wine or other beverages that they've brought. Recommendations for local wines and wineries to visit can augment the experience if they wish. Many recipes in my repertoire are perfectly suited for this region and its bounty and I often call my style "a la californienne" as I love to tweak traditional recipes to incorporate seasonal ingredients and my whims. The cooking is hans on to whatever degree a guest feels comfortable doing but, in this setting and me being, well, me, most people have lots of fun learning by me showing and them doing.

Goat Walk on The Beach
We are hosting a goat walk on the beach with two or more goats in our herd for individuals and groups. A few hours before our meeting time we prepare and transport our trained goats from our herd all the way down to the beach from our sanctuary to walk alongside you for a unique, once in a lifetime experience. Our goats are very special goats nurtured from birth by Billie and her interns to develop a strong trusting relationship with people. Our goats love people and are very interested in getting to know the people they meet. We will meet at the trail head that leads to a very magical and less frequented beach location. When we meet at the trail head location we will talk for about 10 minutes with tips on goat safety. We will also talk about goat companionship, interspecies communication, and the history of humans and goats plus lots more while we walk the trail to the beach guiding the goats along side us stopping to munch a bit. The path to the beach includes a beautiful forested landscape and a few flights of stairs so be prepared to walk some stairs. The walk down to the beach takes about 15 minutes. We will spend about 40 minutes on the beach with the goats. This walk may be canceled if there are less than 4 guests booked. So invite friends! Children are welcome to attend with adult supervision. The whole experience will last no longer than 90 minutes.
