Your Experience at Vitae Spirits Distillery will consist of a face-to-face class with Professor Ian Glomski, the founder of the distillery.
The Experience will unfold as follows within the production area and tasting room of Vitae Spirits Distillery:
1. Brief introduction to the American craft spirits revival
2. Discussion of starting materials for fermentations and their associated end spirit (rum, whiskey, brandy, vodka), with emphasis on sugar cane, the focus of Vitae Spirits Distillery
3. Review how fermentations are set up and completed
4. Summarize the theory and process of distilling a fermentation into a spirit
5. Introduce how flavors are added to spirits
6. Chat about bottling and packaging in the craft distilling environment
7. Taste up to 3 spirits produced by Vitae Spirits Distillery in our award-winning tasting room
Other things to note
Guests must be 21+ years old to drink alcohol. IDs required. Well behaved children are welcome. Well behaved dogs welcome in tasting room, but not production area. Small snacks are available for purchase. Parking immediately in front of distillery and on the street. Wheelchair accessible.

A former Professor of Microbiology at the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine, I have had a profound fascination for over twenty-five years for microbes and how they sculpt our macroscopic world. An experienced brewer, winemaker, cheesemaker, meat curer, kefir culturer, veggie pickler, wild mushroom forager, and infectious disease specialist, anything having to do with microbes turns me on; having trained at the Pasteur Institute of Paris, founded by the father of modern fermentation Louis Pasteur.

With all of my experience teaching at UVA under my belt, there is nothing I like more than sharing my passion for distillation with enthusiastic newbies and experienced moonshiners alike!

The guests’ Experience will take place on Vitae Spirits production floor and tasting room, which was selected as the Best Commercial Interior (out of 350 submissions) by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry in 2018. As an extra bonus for those always looking for a good meal, our distillery is a block away from Ace Biscuit & Barbecue, one of the area’s best BBQ joints.

Interesting and engaging information from Ian. We learned a lot and he made it fun. His passion shines through. And the tastings were delicious!

Ian is an expert on distilling and spirits! We had a great time learning about the process. My favorite part was learning about the difference between the types of spirits including Whisky, Gin, Vodka, etc. Their bartender was very informative and friendly as well.
