We’ll begin our hike at the trailhead in Lion’s Head, Ontario (30 minutes from Tobermory, 35 minutes from Sauble Beach, 1.5 hours from the Blue Mountains, and 3 hours from Toronto Pearson International Airport).

We’ll first meander through an old growth forest in Lion’s Head Provincial Nature Reserve, which sits at the 45th Parallel North, exactly halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. Look closely to discover layers of embossed, fossilized coral shielding dolomitic limestone carved out with hidden caves and overhanging cliffs.

Watch your step as we scale the 500-million-year-old Niagara Escarpment—there are glacial pot holes everywhere! We’ll get up close and personal with these geological wonders formed more than 12,000 years ago during the last glaciation. In fact, the Lion’s Head Pot Hole is so big, we can duck inside for a great photo opportunity!

From the forested trail emerge nonstop breathtaking vistas. Here, we’ll ascend Lion’s Head Lookout, where white limestone cliffs rise out of the turquoise blue waters of Georgian Bay. With a 200-foot sheer drop below us, we can look out to Isthmus Bay and the 1903 lighthouse at Lion’s Head Harbour.

Our hike winds under a precarious rock ledge scooped out from the wave action of a post-glacial lake and out to McKay's Harbour. Here at the craggy shoreline we will devour our well-earned, locally sourced lunch.
Other things to note
This hike is just under 10km, or 6 miles, and takes about 4 hours at a decent pace. It is rated Moderate by AllTrails. We will experience elevation change and rocky footing. Dogs welcome!

If a time or date is not available on the calendar, please inquire and we will do our best to accommodate!

This hiking experience was absolutely amazing. Hailey’s sweet personality and extensive overall knowledge of the area makes this a hiking trip you shouldn’t miss. The scenery is absolutely beautiful! The lunch was delicious! Hailey even made a special lunch for our friend that has allergies. Very kind and thoughtful… she definitely went above and beyond what we expected. We will be back next year for sure!
