Let’s get a taste of Ukrainian cuisine with an Odessa twist. We’re going to cook stuffed bell peppers and a very local dessert: baked apples stuffed with black current. Sounds yummy, doesn’t it? Both dishes suit perfectly well both vegetarians and meat lovers.

Being one of the largest Ukrainian cities Odessa has become a big melting pot for many nationalities. We call bell peppers “Bulgarian” peppers, since these were the Bulgarians who were the first to grow them in our region. Stuffed “Bulgarian” peppers have become an inseparable part of the Odessa cuisine. We stuff them with local grown vegetables, chicken or minced beef, cook them with vegetable gravy and serve with sour cream.

Odessa’s region boasts a big variety of orchards. From apples to apricots to peaches to peers, you name it – we have it all. Baked apples with black current are a very local dessert served throughout the year.

I am excited to invite to my kitchen and share with you my family recipes. While cooking I’ll give you insights into the local culture, cuisine and lifestyle. Let me introduce you to Ukraine and Odessa through the food.

I am an Odessa local, a professional tour guide, the founder of Odessa Walks tour agency and the creator of the original Odessa Food Tour. The food tour has been featured by Financial Times and I personally contributed to the BBC TWO Continental Railroad Journeys episode on Ukraine and Odessa. Absolutely fantastic experience! Olga was really friendly and an amazing teacher. I loved hearing about Ukraine! The food came out so nice, I’ll be making it again for sure. I would highly recommend this experience!!!
