Superhosts Avner and Maskit of Willow, New York, envisioned building a treehouse for their kids to play in by the pond. But it quickly evolved into much more, and as they continued to invest in building the space, they saw the opportunity to share their passion project on Airbnb.

Superhost Michael of Marfa, Texas, says the remoteness of his ranch allows guests to experience "the feeling of ancient warmth and culture." Most come to his glass-walled, solar-powered house to hike in Big Bend National Park, but decide to stay on the ranch.

“That tells me they got it: that experience of remoteness, reconnecting with the land, and a simplistic way of living,” Michael says. “That's been one of the beneficial things about hosting … having people begin to understand it."

That connection inspires Superhost Rebecca of Nashville when she shares her tiny house—and native garden—with guests. “It’s wonderful to feel part of something bigger,” she says. “We view ourselves not only as hosts but also as advocates for tiny houses."

Beyond paying for expenses and taxes, Superhost Porter of Saugerties, New York, says it’s “so much fun” to reinvest in the four shipping containers he’s repurposed in the Catskills Mountains. “We’re building new cabins, new roads, a sauna, hiking trails, and horseshoe pits,” he says.
