Gouldsboro, Maine, l-Istati Uniti

Our inn is situated five minutes from the 5000 acre Acadia National Park at Schoodic which offers 12 miles of pink granite rock lined shore, magnificent hiking trails and eight miles of off road biking paths. Regarding other attractions in our area, there is a wonderful golf course five minutes from the inn The Gindstone Neck Golfcourse that has spectacular view across the ocean and out to both sides of Acadia National Park. Swimming on the beach is at its warmest in August although we see people swim from June thru October; warm fresh water swimming can be had at a nearby pristine lake five minutes from the inn. Opportunities to hike, swim, kayak, bike and canoe abound with wonderful wildlife all around us. Moose, loons, otters, osprey and eagles flying overhead a nearby crystal calm lake, super for canoeing, swimming and picnicking, is five minutes from our inn. A super day trip will take you up to Roosevelt's summer home at Campobello, other historic houses, Quoddy head state park and lighthouse that marks the eastern most point of the United States. On the way back to our inn from Campobello is one of Maine's great Down East restaurants, Helen’s, that is famous for its lobster, chowders and delicious pies. Whale watching is a short drive away. Bar Harbor although close by (45 mins) is avoided by most of our guests who tend to steer away from the town, the crazy golf, go carting and water slides of this famous tourist town overrun by people. Instead out guests stay on our peninsula, visiting the many fine artisans, including a bell foundry, glass blower, winery amongst many others, enjoy fine dining at the many restaurants, and spend their time soaking up the serenity of Schoodic and this side of Acadia National Park which is preferred by our guests. Regarding restaurants in our area we have eight within five to ten minutes of the inn offering everything from Lobster straight out of the ocean served Down East Maine style, with corn on the cob coleslaw and blueberry pie thru to elegant Fine dining and everything in between.

My wife, Sonja and I, both with science backgrounds, have owned Acadia's Oceanside Meadows Inn since 1984. Since it has been been operating as an inn since 1820 we merely consider ourselves the present stewards of this wonderful place. We have over the years acquired 200+ acres of land and a large part of the ocean front around the inn that we have made into a preserve offering miles of trails. Additionally we have been instrumental in securing the future of a further 1300 pristine acres of now preserved land contiguous to ours that our guests can also enjoy. Having established the Acadia's Oceanside Meadows Institute for the Arts and Sciences in 1998 we were honoured to receive the Maine Visionary Award from the Gulf of Maine Council, presented by the State Governor now Independent Senator Angus King. Following our love of the arts we hold frequent events in our 1820's timber framed hall that is home to a magnificent full sized concert grand Steinway Model D Piano that is played by remarkable pianists from around the world who are joined by other world renowned musicians. Mixing in our love of science and history we invite authors from the world over to speak in a lecture series held throughout the Maine summer attended by our guests and community who all love to meet. We feel enriched by the majesty of our magnificent piece of the Maine coast, the wonderful musicians, scientists, artists, folks of all disciplines that have presented and the wonderful guests that have visited us in the over thirty years we have had the pleasure of being here, soaking up the salty air and sound of the surf. We are blessed with two children, Kieran 16 (going on 20) who is travelling widely attending various science programs and conferences and Kalyani 10 a great thespian. Both are die hard environmentalists living in tune and actively striving for the health of our beautiful planet. When they are not hiking the trails on the property or exploring Acadia National Park at Schoodic five minutes away , they are often to be found helping in our extensive organic veggie patches and perennial flower gardens. They particularly relish foraging for a complete meal from the land and cooking it up in very short order to celebrate its just picked magnificent flavour. Following their parents passion for cooking they often assist in creating the organic and as far as possible gourmet breakfasts served to our guests each morning. Being big fans of the chilled mango and lime soup, rhubarb and strawberry coffee cake, waffles with gingered pears, wild organic blueberries and Maine maple syrup they can often be seen sneaking in and around the dining rooms posing as guests in the hope of scrum-ping their favorite breakfast. We are joined by super dedicated staff who share our passion for Maine's natural splendour and help us with all aspects of hosting our inn, personally welcoming everyone of our guests and making them feel completely at home. Many of our crew have been with us for several years including our magnificent organic gardener putting up with us since 1984! Although our private home on property is located away from the inn buildings we generally have the pleasure of meeting all of our guests and definitely all who choose to attend the concerts and lectures series and guest receptions held in the hall at every event. All of us at Acadia's Oceanside Meadows Inn hope we will have the opportunity of welcoming you to our inn and magnificent part of the coast of Maine.
