Lightners' Landing looks out upon the village green and public dock of Bayside. From the large wrap around porch you can keep an eye on your kids playing in the park while you relax in the hammock or enjoy a meal. Bayside offers its own farmers' market, a beach for sunning and swimming and a 9-hole golf course.

Time comes to a standstill here, laughter flows from cottage porches, and kids enjoy scooting around on bikes, shooting baskets, hanging out on the dock and more.

L-ispazju
If you're looking for a family-friendly summer getaway (think lobster dinners on the porch, naps in the hammock, sailing lessons and jumping off the dock during the day, and lunchtime strolls for ice cream at the corner store), this funky, cozy, creaky Bayside cottage is your place. Lightners' Landing blends the simplicity of a camp and the charm of a cottage. Its gingerbread trim and expansive porch will transport you to a timeless era, as will the interior rooms of the walls and ceilings of natural or painted wood with exposed rafters. The screened in dining area is perfect for meals adjacent to the modern kitchen equipped for full cooking needs. A larger section of the porch gives an open view of playground, pier and Penobscot Bay; the hammock, porch swing and comfy wicker chairs make it easy to while away the hours gazing out on the shimmering water with a book in hand. Families with kids enjoy close proximity to the playground and pier along with a lawn big enough to play a game of badminton.

Northport, Maine, United States

Bayside is a village of 19th century Victorian cottages within the town of Northport, just off Route One. Many families return to Bayside for generations and others have more recently discovered it, to find themselves returning to reconnect with the community and the idyllic beauty. A convenience store, kayak rentals and a just-opened breakfast/lunch eatery are a short bike ride about one mile from the Lightner cottage. Bayside offers its own farmers' market, a beach for sunning and swimming and a 9-hole golf course. Belfast is just 10 minutes north, home to a variety of walking trails, independent bookstores, a Friday farmer's market and a Saturday Public Market, art galleries and bakeries. A visit to the Acadia National Park or to islands in midcoast Maine are an easy day trip.

Coming to Bayside every summer has been a treasured tradition of the Lightner family for generations. I moved back to the area ten years ago with my wife and two children because of my many happy memories here. I now keep a sailboat moored in Bayside and end every sail with a dive off the Bayside pier. My job as a software engineer has me traveling a lot, and my wife coordinates a local literacy program. We live in an old farmhouse just outside of Belfast where we garden as we can and enjoy x-country skiing out the back door in the winter.
