A marquee first-floor seaview en-suite, part of Samyama boutique hotel. You will have views both north and west out to the sea and over the pool from your room, and direct access to the upstairs veranda and balcony.

You will be woken by the clear morning sunlight in the front garden, and can end your day on the beach observing the sunset across the Indian Ocean, where you can walk for miles unhindered.

Samyama has been designed and built thoughtfully by Cecily, a yoga therapist and nutrition guru.

It is a special place which affords you the ability to unwind, replenish, and alleviate all spiritual and mental blockages. The sun rises over the lagoon to the west and brings to life a colourful, lush front garden.

You will wake up and be greeted by the gleaming sunlight, distant sound of the waves on the beach and early morning chorus of the birds.
You retire to your comfortable, cool and airy en-suite room which will have either a patio or balcony from which to watch both sunrise and sunset. You may be even be lucky enough and find one of the sea-view rooms.

The private pool in the middle of the estate links the garden and sunset area, and is a welcome option at any point in the day. The area accommodates dinner and drinks as well as a spot to read and embrace the ambience.

Between the beach and pool the private sunset area is suitable for games, relaxation and barbecues as the sun falls through the sky and turns orange.

Being 40 or so metres from the surf you will also fall asleep to the sound of the waves after watching the sun hurry behind the horizon that stretches across the Indian Ocean toward the Maldives.

Samyama is light and airy inside, with a magnificent entrance hall filled with natural light via a glass dome. Doors and windows are tall and the sitting room expansive and dressed in warm colours with a high ceiling.

The sitting room balcony looks west at the beach and sunset, and directly beneath the downstairs patio a versatile space suitable for yoga, pilates, drinks, dancing, talks, meetings and more.

No matter the reason for visiting, nor the duration of your stay, you will feel at ease at Samyama.

Negombo, is-Sri Lanka

We sit on a narrow residential strip between the Indian Ocean and the Negombo lagoon nature area to the east and west, and overseen by Negombo town and the capital, Colombo, to the north and south.

We are part of a quiet residential community south of the main fishing town, so everyone pretty much knows one another, expats and locals alike. The villagers are relaxed and friendly and will lean over backwards to help you.

Overlapping two small villages - Dungalpitiya and Thalahena - around us are a range of local markets, schools, shops, bakeries, restaurants, churches and even fishing and water-sports facilities. We are one of a number of hotels, B&Bs and villas of different character.

Fresh produce is a real theme, sold at stalls and on bicycles every 50 metres or so, with the central Negombo fish market the iconic feature of the town. The Western Province is very much Christian, and real pride is taken in the churches and shrines which are worth a visit.
You can also buy the daily catch from the local fishermen on the beach in the mornings, and prawns and other seafood from the lagoon vendors in Negombo.

Negombo is a modern town with a full array of food, clothing, home and jewellery shops and a dedicated beach area home to an international hotel or two, ice cream parlours and bars.
Boat trips around the lagoon's mangroves and sand banks can be begun there as can canal trips along the Dutch Canal renamed Hamilton by British conquerors. The nearby Jetwing hotels are ideal for a smartly-dressed evening drink or meal.

I am a yoga therapist and entrepreneur who believes in natural health, and this includes the health and happiness of my guests! I moved to the UK at 19, studied and started as a social worker, became a fashion designer and model and later on established a manufacturing business which still runs strong today. Unplanned, I bought a plot of Sri Lankan land in 2004 with an eye on retirement in the warmth whilst my son toured SL playing cricket with his school. 10 years on I welcome guests from around the globe both to what is now Samyama hotel and cottage in Sri Lanka on that plot of land, and also to my country home in Surrey, UK overlooking the south downs. My motto in life is to help those I can when they need it. Albeit a strict practitioner in my classes, I am laid-back and easy-going, and love to share memories and stories with my international guests. I have been lucky enough to travel much throughout my life, thus enjoy being part of and learning about my guests' travels. I love my UK home and equally like others to be able to share the rural surroundings, even if for only a day or two.
