'The Barrens,' is a Victorian Sea Captain's home in the heart of Plymouth's waterfront district overlooking piers, restaurants, historic sites. Our Anchor Suite has 2 twin beds, a small couch, full bath, TV, mini-fridge, microwave. We also offer "Insider Tours of Plymouth". We are only open to healthcare workers until June 12. After that - unless state regulations change - we expect to take all reservations though the state "urges" out of state visitors to self-quarantine for 14 days.

L-ispazju
In Plymouth terms this is a relatively 'young' home: an 1845 Grand Victorian (just shy of 175 years old) that has been updated with technology and conveniences but retains its period charm. Our second floor guest area also features a sun room and library/lounge where free coffee is dispensed through a Keurig machine. The library, by the way, is full of many unique volumes dedicated to our local and regional environment.

Aċċess għall-klijenti
Guest access is through stairs at the back of the house. Come slowly up the driveway and then left into a private parking area. Up the back stairs on the second floor are two common areas: the sun porch and our library. You are welcome as well to use the two patios at the back, one under the grape arbor and the other on the eastern side of the building. The first floor is our private living space.

Expect sweet surprises, local knowledge, remarkable access to history and special insights into the region's natural wonders. Sharl founded several environmental organizations and is deeply involved in this special community - both its government and its environment - and Frank is similarly engaged and for a decade covered town government for the local newspaper.

The Barrens,' you might ask? The name refers to the Coastal Pine Barrens, a unique ecosystem found in only three places in the world today: New Jersey, Long Island, and Southeastern Massachusetts (including Cape Cod and the Islands).

The entryway stairs are steep: there is one flight on the exterior, leading to the keypad, then another flight to the sun porch. Elderly and infirm guests may find those steps challenging. Please also note that we do not permit children under 12.

What a neighborhood! A ten minute walk to the Forefathers Monument on Allerton, a 90-second walk to Pilgrim Hall Museum. Look out over our back fence at the Hedge House, headquarters of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society. Walk a block and you're staring at our whale watch fleet. Oh and yes, that's Mayflower II, the Plymouth Rock, beautiful Brewster Gardens on historic Town Brook. Not to mention several dozen restaurants, the Spire Center (concerts and theatre), 13 Tercentenary monuments, craft breweries, restaurants (from Korean to Thai to Italian to classic New England fried fish and lobster houses... We could go on.. Well, maybe we will a little. Five minutes away are four fabulous historical sites: the 1820 Courthouse (just renovated and now linked to Plymouth's new town hall); Town Square where the head of Metacomet was once displayed, the 1749 Courthouse where John Adams once practiced law still stands and the First Church (being renovated) houses three restored Tiffany windows and, rising up behind the square, Burial Hill... If you’re here Friday through Sunday consider taking a tour of the downtown historic sites with Frank (check ‘experience’) schedule.

I am a dedicated environmentalist, with a growing knowledge (and concern) for the unique ecosystem within which the historic community of Plymouth resides - the Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens. I am very involved in my community, which the local Chamber of Commerce refers to as "America's Hometown." That could be hyperbole, but our history, the mark the Pilgrims and their descendants made on America (there are now (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) million descendants of the original passengers on the Mayflower), and the importance of the Mayflower Compact on the development of democracy in America, suggests that at the very least Plymouth deserves its place in the history books. And modern Plymouth deserves a place on your travel itinerary. 36 miles of coastline, a state forest, a revived downtown with dozens of restaurants, entertainment venues and attractions makes this more than a stop-over between Boston and Cape Cod. Plymouth is worth an extended stay and The Barrens (my Grand Victorian AirBnB) is perfectly situated to enjoy the history, the night life, the scenic beauty and, I hope, our beautiful forests, ponds and rare species.

Whenever possible we would love to interact with our guests. We are often busy though, with our environmental work, involvement with our historic Town Meeting form of government and, like you, with life. But always feel free to contact us and we can either offer our insights into this wonderful community or direct you to friends and associates.
