A magical house in a wonderful area, the holiday starts the moment you set your foot inside! ~ Sue and Jim -

The house is built on the site of a 10th century chateau belonging to the Counts of March. It commands spectacular views over the Vincou valley.
The house is 15th century and has its original oak spiral staircase and treads (rather worn and wonky).

On entering:
Tiled hall with 1930s woodburning stove. Utility room with shower, washing machine, sink and WC.
Twin bedroom with two singles including a fully restored original antique Breton box bed.
15th century oak spiral staircase with the original treads.
First floor:
The kitchen has a cooker with gas hobs and electric oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher, double drainer sink , fridge with an icebox, Limoges crockery.
Sitting room with double sofa and two armchairs. Limestone fireplace with large woodburning stove. Juliet balcony overlooking the Vincou valley .
Second floor:
Main bedroom with panelled fireplace, oak armoire and 17th century chest of drawers. Beautiful views to valley and church. Tiled bedroom with 17th century armoire and large single chestnut sleigh bed.
Bathroom with over-bath shower. Separate WC.
Third floor:
Attic bedroom with large oak sleigh bed and small single iron bedstead. Magnificent views of the church.

There is a small walled terrace with a table and chairs to the rear, facing south-west, with wonderful views over the Vincou valley and the viaduct.

The house was constructed to the standards of earlier times. Consequently, you may encounter features that reflect its particular character but deserve due care and attention, for example uneven floors Young children should be supervised.
This is an historic building and so cannot be entirely draught-proofed without spoiling its character.

The property is heated via a large wood-burning stove in the lounge, which has a heat-transfer flue system to the rooms above. There are also electric storage radiators in these and other rooms. Wood for the stove is included in the holiday price.

The furniture is mainly antique, with some contemporary pieces.

The house can accommodate 7 people in 4 bedrooms.

Four minutes walk to shops, restaurants and bars. Outdoor pool and tennis courts nearby.

I am a sculptor and conservator and have preserved and renovated our houses in Bellac, France and in Somerset, England. I am interested in quirkiness too, which is reflected in some aspects of the houses. We enjoy travelling, and sometimes bring our adult children along as they like being paid for.
