CwCw (Cuckoo) Barn is a lovely spacious airy warm and comfortable modern barn conversion with fantastic views of the surrounding hills. It sleeps up to 6 in 3 bedrooms. Set on a hillside in wonderful quiet rural Carmarthenshire, yet only 10 minutes from the market town of Llandovery.
Come for walks, rides from the doorstep, sightseeing and experience the wonders of being able to see the Milky Way on a starlit night.

L-ispazju
Cwcw (cuckoo) Barn is a superb recent conversion of an old stone and slate building on an upland hill farm in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
We sometimes see and more often hear the cwcw in spring, hence the name for this conversion of our old cow house into a comfortable warm and stylish home.
With its stylish decor and amazing views this romantic and spacious barn will both wow and cosset you.
There are easy, or harder walks with great views from the doorstep and more further afield.

There is a large double bedroom with king size bed, one large twin room with en-suite bathroom, a small twin room and a separate shower room.
The master bedroom has a king size (5 foot wide ) double bed.
The second bedroom has twin 3ft beds, and an en-suite bath room with a shower over the bath. This is a lovely spacious and quiet room at the end of the barn.
There is another twin bedded room, small, but cosy.
Please note that we do not allow sleeping on the sofas.
Thus we can accommodate up to 6, easily, but do not allow more than that (babies/infants who can use a cot excepted).
You will have ample parking spaces for several cars, a sheltered sunny outside terraced area with table and eating/sitting space and a lawned garden area that provides a little bit of peace and quiet and has great views across the valley.

Cwcw Barn is well stocked; with basics such as teas, coffee, and other simple cooking needs etc, to wide screen TV, DVD, a 'smart' Humax TV recorder that makes access to iPlayer , Netflix etc very easy, radio HiFi/CD sound system, and 6 - 10 meg Wifi that is good for streaming videos and conference calling, books and magazines to browse.
Tesco, Asda and Morrisons supemarkets will deliver to Cwcw Barn.

Whether your stay (minimum of 2 nights) is for family, friends or a romantic weekend get away, you could not ask for a more delightful retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life, and you are within seconds of quiet countryside walks which can be as challenging as you wish; a stroll around the farm or on sheltered roads and footpaths, or up to the trig point on the top of Fforest, the nearest hill top of the Cambrian range at about 1300 feet.
All without using the car.

This is a stylish warm and peaceful building with underfloor heating throughout, supplied by an external oil boiler.
It is well appointed, quiet and has lovely extensive countryside views and a sheltered terraced outside area to eat al fresco or just sit quietly.
There is parking for numerous cars.

Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms with the option of a cot and high chair for an infant.

+ short breaks (2 night minimum)

+ Romantic? Most definitely!

+ couples? Ideal.

+ For a group of friends? Perfect.

+ A family? Oh yes.

- Smokers? Sorry, definitely not inside the building.

- Pets? Not allowed at all, sorry.

- Hen or stag parties? Sorry, definitely not; this is a quiet place, so no noisy groups please.

The main shower room is small and should be ok for a wheel chair user - there is no step into the shower.

There is a very quiet minor road running past the barn so walks with great views and without getting your shoes dirty are possible on the doorstep too.

Cwcw Barn has under floor central heating throughout with a wood stove and oak flooring in the lounge, tiled floor in the kitchen, and the shower room. The bedrooms are carpeted.

The twin bedroom with en suite shower room is at the end of the barn, and so would be quiet for a child, if they needed to be in bed earlier than the rest of the group.

There is a separate shower room, which is small, and has a loo and a large wet room type shower with no step into the shower.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the normal features; it is large, with room for the dining table that seats 6 easily, a long comfortable sofa/bench and an island unit.
Equipment includes; electric oven, grill and ceramic hob with extractor fan, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster, cafetiere and all the usual cooking utensils and pans etc. French doors to the sheltered terrace.
CD/radio, mP3/iPod connection. Dining table that can seat up to 8.

Ironing board, iron (and even soft water for the iron) and a hairdryer are all provided.

Living Room: Spacious lounge with lovely outlook, 2 comfortable 3-4 seater sofas and two other chairs. A small wood stove and a two days wood supply (more available on request)
WiFi, TV Humax 'smart' recorder that can access iPlayer, Netflix etc,
A beautiful room with exposed stone wall and beams that is very relaxing.

The corridor leading to the bedrooms and main shower room/ loo is pleasantly wide as befits the space.

Cleaning; The property is cleaned prior to your arrival, and weekly, with a linen change, for longer stays.

Llandovery, Wales, ir-Renju Unit

Llandovery is a pleasant market town, only 10 mins by car, along the leafy lane that leads down to the main road.
Take your time along here; there are many blind bends and 20 mph is quite fast enough!
Many shops, including a medium size supermarket, bakers, butchers, delis, cafes Post office, gift shops etc.
A great Chinese takeaway, and the Three Horseshoes fish and chip restaurant and takeaway, both on the main street are recommended, and there are Indian and other fast food outlets.
There are several good places to eat out;
The Old Printing Office cafe (daytime) is my favourite, behind the shop.
The Kings Head and Castle Hotels do good food, as does the Three Horse Shoes restaurant and takeaway.
The town used to have over 30 pubs! But now there are approximately 10,
and there a several country pubs in the Towy valley that make a good welcome and do food.
I provide a detailed list in my welcome pack and handbook.

Llandovery is the home of the Llandovery Drovers, a semi professional Welsh Premiership rugby side, and the centre of the small town is occupied by the famous Llandovery College, where many sporting greats have come to the notice of talent spotters, especially on the rugby field.
There is a swimming pool, tennis squash and raquetball courts, bowls and croquet adjacent to the delightful Castle Fields cricket ground, next to the car park in the centre of town.
A visit to the livestock market, beyond the town car park, on Tuesday mornings or most Fridays could be an interesting excursion.

This lovely rural area is fantastic for the outdoors with walking, cycling, both on road and off, and we even have a great MTB trail within easy cycling range of the farm, Cwm Rhaeadr MTB forest trail; cycle over into the next valley, 30 mins, ride the trail, 45 mins /lap, dine in the Neuadd Arms in Cilycwm and ride back to Owl Barn at Penygaer. Phew! Or put the bike in the car to get there.....
There are many other cycle and walking tracks through Crychan forest on the opposite side of our Bran valley, or ride/ walk out onto the hills of mid Wales or the Brecon Beacons, only 30 mins away.

Visit;
Lyn y Fan; the most fantastic (URL HIDDEN) is a delightful lake nestling in the cwm of Fan Fawr, the mountain in the view from the kitchen door; 35 mins in the car, then 40 mins walk to the lake. Magical with mystical stories about the Lady of the Lake! On to the top of Fan Fawr is a good hike, but what a view...yes, that is Somerset you can see from there!
Gold Mines at DolauCothi 30 mins away by car
Upper Towy valley, Cilycwm, Rhandirmwyn and on to the
Lynne Brianne dam, the largest of it's type in Europe, walking/cycling, very scenic 35 mins to the dam up the Towy valley.
Aberglasney; world famous gardens, 40 mins
National Botanic Garden of Wales, Nantgaredig 45 mins
Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli, home of Scarlets rugby 60+ mins
Cardiff and the Millenium Stadium 80+ mins
Swansea (football and Ospreys rugby) and
The Gower peninsular, beaches, walking, etc 90 mins
Llandeilo; shopping and architecture 30 mins
Brecon; shopping and architecture 35 mins
Laugharne; home of Dylan Thomas 65 mins
Brechfa forest/Abergorgech; superb MTB trails, 35 mins
Dan yr Ogof show caves open to the public 40 mins
Ystradfellte; amazing walks in wonderful sheltered wooded valleys with waterfalls and caves
Horse riding at Cae Iago Riding Centre, Ffarmers 35 mins
Llangose lake; sailing, canoeing etc. beyond Brecon 40 mins
Rallying; many events throughout the year, on the Eppynt military range or in Crychan and Halfway forests, 25 mins
The area has fantastic roads for motorcyclists, and you will notice many of them visit the town for a cuppa on their travels in summer.
Golf; there's a nine hole course just beside the river Towy. 10 mins
Builth Wells has a good 18 hole course. 35 mins
Builth Wells is also home to the annual Royal Wesh Show around the end of July, and the showground hosts many other events throughout the year.
Fishing is possible on the Towy river that flows down its beautiful adjacent valley and past Llandovery, or at Springwater Lakes 30 mins away towards Lampeter.

I have been a farmer for most of my working life, but 15 years ago I started holiday letting properties in Bath, and now on the farm in Wales too - both are such great places to visit and stay. I enjoy participating in a few sports, and I also like a bit of culture and comfort and that's what we try to provide for guests! I will endeavour to continue to offer a warm welcome, with comfortable, friendly and helpful hosting for guests in the future. Please do come and stay!

I live across the old farm yard in the main farmhouse, but I am often away and you may not even see me when I am at home!
The keys are kept in safe place outside, so you may arrive at whatever time suits you, after 4 pm normally, often earlier.
You will be given instructions by email about accessing the keys a couple of days prior to arrival.
However, I am always available on the phone/email/WhatsApp / text etc.
