Stay a completely unique, architect-designed wooden pod w/ magnificent outdoor spaces in Hout Bay w/ incredible sea and mountain views, surrounded by beaches, sand dunes, mountains and fynbos, while close to town & the Cape Town CBD.

The Fynbos Cabin has twin/king bed(s), bathroom, living area, kitchenette & its own deck & wood-fired outdoor bath.

Internet speed:500MB down/250MB up

We have another pod & main house on the property so you can expect to occasionally see ourselves & other guests.

This is is a brand new, completely bespoke 8x3m wooden cabin perched on a hill of fynbos with 270 degree views the incredible Chapmans Peak mountains, Sandy Bay dunes and beach of Hout Bay, situated at Cyphia Close Cabins

Finished during 2021, it was designed and thought out over a long time by an avid traveller to be exactly what a magical adventure to a far-off place should be - a bit of glamourous rustic, a bit of luxury, a bit of originality, and lot of practical functionality, with incredible views.

You will not find a property like this anywhere in Cape Town.

Enter the pod up the stone stairs, across the wooden deck and up the wooden ramp. Leave your shoes in a nook by the entrance to keep a clean, shoe-free zone, and hang your coats and keys behind the front door.

Behind a solid wood, locally crafted barn door, is the beautifully designed bathroom with a uniquely-tiled shower, stone basin atop a purpose-build wooden pedestal and toilet. Hang up or fold away your clothes, lay out your shoes, and keep your suitcases out of the way at the top of the open twin cupboard spaces.

The kitchenette punches well above its weight for its size, and boasts beautiful, locally-crafted wooden counters and shelving, as well as a rustic concrete basin home-made from the sand outside. Crockery, cutlery and all the basics needed for self catering are found on the open shelves. A pantry cupboard hides away any clutter, groceries, cleaning items and internet access points. The red fridge in the corner makes a statement, while a mini dishwasher is a rare jewel for those who hate washing dishes on holiday.

The lounge area has a tiny wood-fired closed-combustion fireplace with a basket of wood, as well as a comfortable hand-crafted wooden couch with magnificent views. The couch has an additional feather mattress topper and can double up as a comfortable single bed for a third person if booked accordingly.

Step up to your sleeping platform, read a book or wake up to a magical sunrise, watching the panoramic sea and mountain views. The quality mattresses can be configured as a connected singular king bed for individuals or couples (default), or as twin beds for single travellers.

Drink your coffee in the morning, enjoy your meals or (try to) work on your laptop under a unique chandelier, at the versatile coffee bar with incredible views of the mountains and sea. The sliding windows all open in any direction, for the living outdoors feeling.

If this isn't enough to entice you, enjoy an outdoor shower after a hot hike or long day at the beach, or pop a few logs into the wood-fired coil to warm up your own personal concrete hot bath (for one or two) while watching the fading sun paint the Chapmans Peak mountains pink and the bay a pale silver in the fading light.

If its not a windy day, enjoy a braai and al fresco dining on the wooden deck before retiring for the evening.

The property is very secure and boasts external cameras, linked alarm system and electric fencing all around as well as remote-controlled smart access.

The magical garden and outdoor spaces are a highlight of this property, designed by a talented local garden designer to be entirely indigenous and mostly local fynbos growing in this specific area. It boasts a beautiful natural rock eco pool, outdoor sitting and eating areas and an outdoor firepit, with endless views of the mountains and sea from various angels, and abundant birdlife and local wildlife (spot the frogs, mongeese and caracals). The garden area includes a kitchen garden, composting section, rainwater harvesting, walkways and paths, and has been designed with long term sustainability in mind, particularly with Cape Town being a water scarce environment.

Please respect other residents on the property and their privacy. Except for the pod and personal deck, the rest of the garden is not for guest use. However, please feel free to ask us if you would like to try anything out of our kitchen garden.

There is direct access to the Sandy Bay Dunes Nature Reserve via a back gate on the property, where guests can walk about 200m up the hill, onto the sand dunes and down to Sandy Bay and across to Llundudno along the hiking paths, as well as onto the Shipwreck Trail. The top of the dunes are popular with groups and families for picnics. Please look out for the sign to the beach, follow the path behind the main house (not by the deck and pool) and respect our privacy.

If you’re a surfer, Sandy Bay and Llundudno are both in walking distance. If you’re a family with kids and dogs, welcome to heaven. This place is a paradise for hikers, trail runners and cyclists, and even the less fit can enjoy an almost flat walk (from the top of the dunes) along the contour of The Sentinel, with incredible views across to Camps Bay, the 12Apostles and Lions Head. This location literally cannot be beaten.

Cape Town, Western Cape, l-Afrika t’Isfel

To quote Hout Bay Tourism, Hout Bay is the ideal place for a holiday, its white sandy beach, fishing harbour, and thriving village is surrounded by beautiful mountains and offers something for all ages whether you enjoy adventure activities, scenic drives, or just relaxing in the sunshine. Hout Bay has most amenities any holiday maker needs, including access to excellent shops, markets and restaurants.

It is a perfect base for exploring the Cape Peninsula with the beautiful Chapmans Peak Drive as the southern gate way to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope National Park. Drive 20 minutes in the other direction and you can go for a picnic and walk in one of the most incredible botanical gardens in the world, Kirstenbosch. An hour’s drive will take you to the renowned Cape Winelands where you can visit a wide variety of Wine Estates, or go local and explore the winelands of Constantia.

Just 90 minutes to 2 hours away is the wonderful coastal town of Hermanus - one of the best whale watching places in the world (season is June to December) or follow the Atlantic coast north to West Coast National Park with its lovely lagoon and famous spring flowers. You can even visit a big four game farm in the Western Cape.

The property is also only 5 minutes from Llandudno (also walkable), 10-15 minutes from iconic Camps Bay and Clifton and just 20-25 minutes from the Cape Town CBD, Sea Point promenade and V&A Waterfront, while at the same time being out of the Atlantic seaboard traffic of peak summer and tourist season.

Cape Town is a nature lovers paradise, with walking, hiking, climbing, rock pool swimming, surfing, cycling and loads of other outdoor activities available.

There is plenty of hiking available in Cape Town and the surrounds, with many options available locally in Hout Bay. There are several easy hiking trails in the nature reserve, down to Sandy Bay and along the coast to Llundudno, which even has a “Sunset Rock”. Families often picnic on the sand dune at the top of the hill.

A short but steep 45 minutes hike up Little Lions Head starts only 5 minutes away with the most incredible views of the surrounding landscape. Just note it is not well marked at the top and is also rocky. It is generally not difficult but requires some rock scrambling and care to avoid accidents.

There is no better location in Cape Town, if you want to be within minutes of the action but located in a quiet, tranquil and gorgeous seaside setting, where you can imagine you’re not in a major international city at all.

I’m an Impact/social entrepreneur with a passion for food and travel. I love the outdoors and enjoy hiking particularly multiday hikes. Proud parent to the best doggo in the world, Biscuit, and the substantially less extroverted cat, Keeton.

I run a consultancy focused on BEE, economic development, sustainable development goals and social enterprise and am associated with the global Impact Hub network.

My biggest work focus is the youth development social enterprise I started recently.

I live between Cape Town and Johannesburg and Air Bnb my houses in both cities depending on my movements and if I feel like company. I’ve stayed in Air BnBs all around the world.

My partner and I live in the main house when we are in Cape Town, which is for most of the year and when we are not travelling. I am passionate about the outdoors and about hiking and feel incredibly lucky to be able to live in this amazing natural setting, yet still be so close to all the amenities and interests in Cape Town.

Having lived away from Cape Town for about 20 years, I treat living in Cape Town like a permanent traveller and regularly explore all the city has to offer. I can therefore make all kinds of suggestions to guests and am available to assist guests with questions and suggestions whether I am in Cape Town or not.

I do, however, run my own business as well as a youth development organisation and am therefore often not easily available during working hours. I work mostly from home when in Cape Town. My partner is more flexible and more easily available during the day.
