Nestled amongst the woods and pasture at the end of the road is your cozy cabin getaway. Get away from it all; find yourself in a place where time and space allow you to slow down, connect with yourself and enjoy the serenity of nature. The cabin is located at White Sky Woods Homestead, the 240 acres we steward in historic Jacobsville. Our family fully remodeled this home which is built around the original settler's hand-hewn cabin. We’ve created a space so guests can retreat, refresh and relax.

If it’s nature and quiet you want to immerse yourself in, come and stay. Guests have access to our growing 3+ mile trail system exploring woods, pastures, ponds and wetlands. A map is provided in the Welcome Binder. Trails are available year-round but are not groomed in winter. Pick a pond on our private property for a picnic and enjoy hearing only the sounds of nature. Thermal picnic basket and picnic blanket available to borrow. Observe the wildlife through sight and sound. Take a .75 mile walk to a beautiful secluded spot on Lake Superior or a 5 mile drive to a public sandy beach, boat launch, and lighthouse.

We are dog friendly! To keep our cabin dog friendly we rely on our guests to be responsible pet owners during their stay. If you are bringing your dog, please read the house rules to understand expectations and additional nightly fee. Dogs are family and we recognize the value of being able to travel with your pet, but we count on responsible pet owners to be able to offer a pet-friendly stay.

Cabin amenities:
A casual and rustic living room nestled within the hand-hewn original log cabin walls.

Comfortable couch and chairs. TV with DVD Player and selection of DVDs for all ages. Small selection of games, books, and puzzles. No broadcast or cable TV. Wi-Fi available. Most phones with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon have good coverage in and around the cabin.

A full kitchen with all the basic amenities and a table that seats 4.

1 Full Bathroom with shower.

1 Bedroom with 1 queen sized bed.

1 Loft with writing desk and a futon couch for additional sleeping space. Loft experience provides a peaceful place for reflection, writing, art, yoga or meditation.

Bonfire pit, firewood and chairs for enjoying the night sky and evening sounds.

Winter guests are welcome to borrow snowshoes (2 pairs available).

Binoculars for bird and animal watching are provided at the cabin. Nature guidebooks to enhance your engagement with nature.

Cabin is two floors, with stairs to reach both the bedroom (with queen bed) and the loft (with futon). Please consider this as it may not be suitable for young children or people who are challenged by steps.

The lower level is built around the original settler's cabin and has a slightly lower ceiling height.

What you can expect:

A quiet spot at the end of a dead end gravel road with access to our private trail system, private ponds (no swimming) and Lake Superior nearby.

Depending on the season, wild blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and apples growing wildly near the cabin can be picked for your enjoyment.

Walk 3/4 mile down the road for a beautiful secluded spot on Lake Superior.

5 mile drive to a public sandy beach, boat launch, and lighthouse.

Visit the historic Jacobsville Historical Finnish Church, Jacobsville cemetery, White City Lighthouse, Jacobsville Lighthouse, and Jacobsville Community Center (former schoolhouse).

The roads to the cabin are gravel and are accessible all year round. It can be sloppy during spring thaw or after a lot of rain, but generally no problems with access.

We love where we live, and we look forward to sharing its beauty with you!

Your hosts, our family, live and work on the same property (across the way from the cabin) in a yurt. You may see our two children playing and riding bikes or the adults going about their day working in the gardens, picking berries, walking the trails, at the pole barn, etc. We strive to give guests privacy unless we've pre-arranged interactions. This is a working small farm so there may be some work activity taking place around you during your stay. We have farm animals, so you will likely hear farm sounds, but please do not approach animals unless you have permission.

Our family set the goal of simplifying, downsizing, and living in more sustainable ways. Ultimately, transitioning (in 2017) to a full-time life in our hand-built yurt on 240 beautiful acres in a remote area of the Keweenaw Peninsula. As we settled into our new homesteading life, we launched White Sky Woods Homestead, LLC. We run a farm stand and sell fresh produce, eggs, jellies, and rustic bread to our local community. In 2021, we completed the remodel of the cabin so that people can getaway from it all; engaging in nature and the homestead with additional immersive paid experiences, if they like. We came here, retreating to the land to feed our souls. We love where we live, and love to share our nature space with others.

We also love to expand on our experiences by traveling road-trip style around the United States.
