Twin Palms is the comfy island home of a New York Times best-selling author and her tech husband. This is a ground-level old Florida rambler is just two short blocks to epic white sandy beaches. Our private heated pool is kept at 88F plus year-round.

We want you to feel like you're staying at a friend's beach house, not just a vacation rental, so we supply a lot of extra amenities and many small touches, like a welcome basket on arrival and more towels than you'll ever need. Layout is great for two/extended families sharing, or a friends retreat.

Cook big meals in our fully equipped kitchen remodeled in 2019 with all new appliances. Plenty of dishes, loads of cookware and even big serving platters provided. Eat inside or out under palms and bamboo on the deck; both tables can seat a big group. Help yourself to anything in the cupboards, which we keep stocked with spices, oils, vinegar, condiments, etc. for cooking great meals. Two kitchen islands means lots of space to hang out and cook, eat or just drink wine together.

We provide beach stuff, including chairs, umbrellas, a large canopy, boogie boards and sandcastle gear. Help yourself to dozens of books, DVDs or more than 20 board games.

Our goddaughters grew up coming to this house, so families, we've got you covered: kid dinnerware, a high chair, two folding cribs, a toddler cot, soft infant toys, baby linens, indoor toys, pool toys and even a baby monitor. We also have "high locks" on all the pool-facing doors for safety.

We provide all guests with a 25-page guide to the house, island and local restaurants, all compiled by Kathleen, the owner who is a Paris-trained chef who grew up on the island. She will also recommend great places to buy local seafood and where to find local farmer's markets.

We pride ourselves on providing a great experience for all our guests. You won't find a better value anywhere on the island.

Quick FAQ

Q. How big is your pool?
Our custom lagoon-style kidney-shaped pool was installed in 2014. At it's widest, it measures 12 feet, at its narrowest, about 9 feet. It's about 23 feet long. It features a real rock waterfall, lush landscaping. Seating is spread out over three deck areas. Our outdoor deck table can seat ten at once, while the entire deck can seat up to 18. We keep our pool at 88 degrees+ all year and have it professionally serviced twice a week for optimal cleanliness.

Q. How close are you to the beach?
We're located about 250 meters from the beach, about two blocks, a five-ish minute stroll or a one-minute drive. We have a small trolley to carry all your beach gear. We provide plenty of towels for both indoor use and beach/pool use, a new front-loading washer/dryer combo with 20-minute wash setting.

Q. Are you kid-friendly?
You bet! We're completely set up for kids, with a high chair, folding crib, toddler cot, baby monitor, indoor toys, beach toys, kids books, kids plates/bowls/cups, family friendly DVDs, etc. We also have high locks installed on the doors near the pool.

Q. What is the bedroom situation like?
The house has four bedrooms plus the Lido room which can be used as an optional fifth bedroom. The setup is good for two families sharing.

Here's how they break down:
- Captains Quarters (king bed)
- Shell bedroom (queen)
These two share a newly remodeled shower with body jets and a waterfall shower. There is a door from the living that transforms those rooms into its own little two-bedroom area.

- Waterfall (California King)
- Lido Room
These two rooms have French doors opening directly to the pool area, and they share a bathroom with a waterfall shower with river rock floor (soothing on sore feet). The doors have "high locks" to prevent kids from getting to the pool undetected.

Lido has a daybed with pop-up trundle that can be used as two twins or as a king. Lido also has a foldout couch that is extra wide to sleep one or can transform into a queen bed. As a result, it's an incredibly versatile room which can sleep two or three singles/kids, or can be made into a queen or king bed with a sofa for a couple on their own or with a child.

Lido is stocked with board games, Texas hold-em sets, puzzles, kids coloring stuff, etc.

Hemingway (double)
This small bedroom on its own off the dining room. It has a cool custom-made barn door and a desk. This room has a full/double bed with a new mattress and gel topper. Teens love this room.

Q. How do we get keys?
A. No keys! We use coded locks so you can arrive at any time after check-in using a secure code unique to you, generally the last four digits of your mobile phone number so you can remember it easily.

Fejn se tkun

Holmes Beach, Florida, l-Istati Uniti

People often say that Anna Maria Island is like 1950s Florida. It's just a slower pace, with no high rises or chain restaurants. It's just a lovely little beach community on a beautiful tropical island. We are in a residential neighborhood that's generally peaceful yet easy to get to everything. There is another vacation near us, and it just happens to be next door. They are usually fine, but should they be too rowdy, just let us know and we'll contact the owner.

I'm a French-trained chef and New York Times bestselling author. Mike is an architectural and multidisciplinary designer and does occasional marketing consulting in the tech industry. We were married in 2004 on Anna Maria Island, where my family moved in the late 1970s. I bought our home here on the island 2002 while I was living in London; Mike bought a home in Seattle the same year. When we were married in 2004, we decided to keep both houses so we could spend time with our parents. Mike's father lived in Washington State and my mom continued to live in the same house she grew up in on the island, and for several years, my in-laws were able to spend a good chunk of their time at Twin Palms, the name we gave to our island house. After they passed away, we decided to shift that house into a rental so that others could experience the relaxing magic of the island while we're in Seattle. We're pretty easy going people. We've traveled all over the world and lived abroad in London and Paris. We have a small terrier named Maddy who we adore. We're both ex-Microsoft, so we love gadgets and tech-y things. I've always had a passion for cooking, history and literature, so you'll find cookbooks, novels, history books and several years' of Smithsonian and National Geographic magazines all over our houses. We both believe that being generous and open is the key to living a good life. My grandfather used to say, "You can't give generosity away; it always comes back to you."

We offer a complete no contact stay. You let yourself in via a coded lock and will have the place entirely to yourself. If an issue arises, we are available by phone and text.

When we're on the island, we stay in the adjacent writing cottage. The two are completely separate from one another, have separate AC/venting systems and the pool is accessible only from the main house where you'll be staying.
