Relax in this serene setting with a hot tub overlooking Harpers Ferry National Park Land. Enjoy evening fires, the pool, screened-in porch, a coffee/book in the solarium or go hiking/tubing nearby. Located only 1 mile from the C&O towpath / Potomac River and 2 miles (by foot) from the town of Harpers Ferry awash with history. We hope our home (we call it Harpers Getaway) provides a tranquil backdrop to immerse you in nature and lower your stress level so you can reconnect with those you love!

Main Floor:
As you enter the foyer, you'll notice good sightlines between the kitchen and the backyard/firepit/pool area. The main space has an open kitchen/dining/living area with easy access to the screened-in porch just off the kitchen. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main floor. 1 of the bedrooms has a bunk bed which can accommodate 2 kids (upper bunk, kid should be over 6 years of age). The other bedroom which shares the hall bath has a queen bed and desk/shelves working space with a nice view of the forest. The owner's suite is also located on the main floor and is great for sensitive sleepers because it is isolated by a long hallway which affords 2 doors of separation with no other rooms above/below/adjacent to it. The owner's bedroom is large enough to accommodate a king bed with a firmer mattress in addition to a queen bed with a softer mattress -- take your pick! There's a deck off the owner's suite that leads to the hot tub.

Lower level:
This level has another bedroom with a king bed and rocking chair as well as a another room with a queen bed. There's a hall bath and laundry on top of which there's a 2nd living room with a TV and an adjacent 3rd living space; a solarium with heated floors. We think the latter is the best space in the house :)

COMMUNICATION: We will strive hard for 5 star reviews, so if for any reason you feel unsatisfied and that your stay was less than a 5 star experience, we ask that you PLEASE let us know beforehand so that we can do our best to resolve any issue you might be having. We can't improve your stay if you don't tell us about it! We really hope your time at Harpers Getaway is relaxing and pleasant, so please let us know how we can help improve your experience.

AGE 25 OR OLDER TO BOOK: The guest booking the property must be 25 years of age or older. NO PARTIES. This property is not designed to withstand that type of abuse as things are not industrial or commercial grade like a bar. It is a home and its fixtures and systems expect gentle wear. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property.

WIFI/INTERNET: Unfortunately, because the house is rural, you don’t get super-fast internet. That said, we pay the maximum amount for Viasat which ends up providing about 30mbps which is enough to watch HD video clips or stream and HD movie. However, it would not support multiple devices all streaming HD at once (hope that makes sense). Cell reception is not great but it still works for making calls. Hopefully you are here to unplug a bit!

BUGS: PRO TIP - keep an outdoor fire going to keep away gnats in Summer/Fall! This is a house 1 mile up from the river and it backs up to lots of woods (National Park Service land). Accordingly, there are a good amount of bugs all the time, especially in the summertime and Fall. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food.

SNOW-INS: During the winter, four wheel drive is recommended in case of snow storms. Please use good judgment about whether you’d start the trip early or cancel (reach out to us!). We’ll issue a full refund for every day the house is not used due to snow-related cancellations.

FIRE PIT: Please bring your own firewood! Start a fire to keep the gnats away! You are encouraged to use the fire pit as long as you do so in a responsible manner. By using the fire pit you agree to release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the fire pit, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence. If you have small children with you, please make sure they are aware that both the surrounding pavers and metal will be hot.

BUNK BEDS: This property has bunk beds, which pose a risk of injury. Guests agree to hold owner and/or manager harmless for any injuries which may occur.

SMOKING: Smoking is not allowed at this property. Fireworks are not allowed at this property.

SEPTIC SYSTEM: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain.

SHEETS: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.

LANDSCAPING: Please make sure that any outdoor activities respect the landscaping. Please do not play games like bag toss that would destroy the yard because people trounce the same spot for a long time. There’s an unkempt and uneven field on the higher ground beyond the fence behind the pool that could be used for other activities. We are happy to send a plat to help identify where you’re able to go, i.e. the boundaries of the 5 acres. Leave the city/suburbs behind and get some real fresh air and less light pollution at night!

WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF HOT TUB: By using the hot tub you agree to follow all house rules associated with it and you release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the hot tub, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence. The property is nestled into the western slope so you can expect good afternoon sun. There are 3 living areas, one of which is a solarium with a heated concrete floor. There's a 36" steel griddle on the back deck perfect for expediting all meals.

NEIGHBORS: There is a kind elderly woman across the street. She has NPR on the radio all day and you’ll hear her dog Harry when he gets let out to express his dominance over his domain and use the bathroom. Up behind the house and to the north is a cute 1 bedroom cabin. If you go behind the pool fence to explore in the forest, you will see the cabin.

QUIET HOURS START AT 10 PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am are required by county ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund.

GARAGE: The garage is not available to guests and will be locked during your stay and the same goes for the owner's suite's additional walk-in closet.
