It is very easy and fast to reach Celorico de Basto. Coming from the city of Porto, taking A4 it only takes an hour. To the North, the municipality is crossed by A7/IC5 allowing, through the city of Fafe or the town of Arco de Baúlhe, to reach the cities of Braga, Guimarães, Vila Real and other locations.

This Ecopista runs through the municipal areas of Amarante, Celorico de Basto and Cabeceiras de Basto and runs along what used to be one of the most beautiful railway lines in the country, allowing direct contact with the historic heritage and natural surroundings, including the many villages and bridges that crosses in all its extension, the verdant landscapes of unrivalled beauty and the river Tâmega, which accompanies almost always, very closely.
The old station of Gatão, immediately bringing to mind the famous “vinho verde” it shares its name with, is one of the many peculiarities of this ancient line of Tâmega.
The kilometre 0 of the “Ecopista” is in Celorico de Basto, and it´s also here we have the largest number of infrastructures of support, including a Museum and a Hostel.
Another attraction, chasing us for several kms, is the famous Monte Farinha (flour) or, as it is known, Monte da Sr.ª da Graça (Our Lady of Grace)

Celorico de Basto, Braga, il-Portugall

Celorico de Basto is a village in the District of Braga, Northern region and sub-region of Tâmega, with about 2500 inhabitants.
It is a markedly rural municipality and deep traces of its agricultural activity can be seen throughout its territory and landscape, mainly wine production along the valley of river Tâmega, the famous “vinho verde”, and livestock rearing in the mountain area.
Celorico de Basto offers a wide range of equipment and leisure areas, of which stands out the Municipal Library Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, being one of the most sought after spaces. The green leisure zone surrounding the Freixieiro river, with its playground, walking routes, river beach, lawns, terraces and restaurants is also highly recommended.
The disabled railway Tâmega line has recently been turned into a 40 km long and 3.5 m wide “ecopista”, this is a gentle, accessible to all route that can only be used by pedestrians or cyclists. All efforts have been made to keep the existing vegetation.
