Affarijiet oħra li għandek tagħti kas
Depending upon the week, different groups of people may be enjoying the house with you. You may decide to participate in activities with the group or not as you desire, but many of the guests stay multiple weeks every year and know each other. To promote a more harmonious time, the following are thoughts and questions that may give you a better idea of life at the house and aid in your enjoyment.

Cleaning
Cleaning service comes once a week before our stay, meal and other items need to be picked up, cleaned and put away regularly.

What's your definition of clean?
Some people wash their dishes immediately after use. Others get to scrubbing only after the sink is overflowing & you’ve run out of dishes to use. The house defaults to the former.

When and how do you catch Z's?
Some folks need a completely silent, isolation booth to sleep soundly. Others could sleep through a train barreling into the room. Do you snore loudly? There is certainly usually some nighttime coming and going - maybe late night spa tub, but we like to be respectful of other people's need for rest and relaxation. The house likes to accommodate early to bed and late sleepers.

Meals
We are generally pretty relaxed about putting together meals at the house and will try to accommodate people’s likes and dislikes if people decide to dine together. Most residents often participate in putting together an evening meal – procuring ingredients, cooking and cleanup – whatever you might be able to do and are good at.

Food fears and needs
Is a dish not complete unless it's covered in bacon, cheese or hot sauce? Dietary preferences can really clash sometimes. Make sure that if you’re vegan, you’re okay with having slabs of meat in the fridge. Any strong allergies?

Do you smoke?
Living with smoke or without it – whether cigarettes or other – is a deal-breaker for some. Are you an occasional or heavy smoker? There is no smoking in the house, but an occasional cigarette outdoors should not bother anyone – especially if you keep the ashtrays clean.

Do you drink alcohol?
How often and how much do you drink? Are you a teetotaler that cannot stand the sight of alcohol or a devoté of Margarita Mondays? Do you get drunk regularly? And how would others characterize you while intoxicated? Alcohol is certainly around the house – maybe even abundantly around – but we try not to get too sloppy.

Do you plan on having overnight or visiting in-room ‘guests’?
Not to pose a delicate question, but this can refer to both friends visiting and people you are hooking up with – given our current COVID dilemma this can be problematic. Other residents in the house may think they are staying with one roommate, but end up getting one and a half or two. Many people come to the house for privacy and seclusion. The house would currently like as little exposure to avoidable people as possible. Room occupancy is generally for one or two. If more will be staying, please make sure to arrange this with your reservation ahead of time so that all the guests know what to expect. Temporary visitors should not be an inconvenience or burden on other residents.

Do you have a pet (or pets)?
Pets can be a joy, but pet allergies, noise and accidents from dogs can be a real obstacle to house harmony. In general, guests in the house do not bring their pets out of respect for other residents and the house. Please make inquires in advance as to whether a pet can be accommodated.

Anything else that you would like to know or we should know/share?
Maybe something we forgot to ask or discuss – now is the time! Please share anything you think we need to know so we can all have a more comfortable and respectful stay.

Longtime NYC resident and homeowner in Fire Island. College professor specializing in wine, food . . . thus hospitality. Love the Fire Island beach – one of the most beautiful and tranquil in the northeast – and the Pines is fun, of course, too!

Large tranquil spacious house with low occupancy (5-6 others), often enjoy dinners together, relaxing pool & beach time, as well as other Pines activities. Guests may choose to enjoy their stay in privacy, but are invited to participate in any group meals, contributing to the cost and clean-up associated. A relaxed fun place, but not really a party house.
