Our secluded riverfront cabin has been completely remodeled and is available for you to enjoy the peace and tranquility of "The Promised Land". Enjoy the solitude of no visible neighbors yet only minutes from downtown East Jordan where you can enjoy fresh local coffee, a delicious breakfast or some of the best soft serve ice cream Northern Michigan has to offer. Enjoy fantastic fishing out your front door, have a fire inside or out, or just relax to the sounds of the magnificent Jordan River.

L-ispazju
The cabin was built from a kit from Boyne Country Builders and built by John Edwards
in 1955. The logs were hand hewn and are different sizes. The exterior log made up the
interior knotty pine. There was no insulation. When the cabin was restored in 2021, it
was framed and insulated, and new tongue-and-groove knotty pine was installed. The
beams on the ceiling, cross beams, the barnbeam, the fireplace, and the steps are all
original.
● The sign on the mantel was originally hanging above the front door of the cabin. We’re
not sure which owner first hung the sign.
● The door to the bathroom was cut down from the original front door to the cabin.
● The top cupboards are the original handmade cupboards from 1955.
● The Petoskey Stone knobs were locally crafted specifically for this cabin. You can find
Petoskey Stones all over the yard and woods on the property.
● The oars in the light were Eric’s father’s from a rowboat his grandfather bought for him
in 1958 when he was sixteen.
● The kitchen table was handmade by our neighbor. The table and its benches are held
together only by pegs.
● The antique desks are an homage to our profession--we’re both teachers! The smaller
desk was a kindergarten desk in the 1940s. The larger desk was from a similar era but
for older children.
● The log beds are hand built and original from 1955 and have always been with this cabin.
● The #s and bookends are from the grates of the Mackinaw Bridge. You can still see rust
and oxidation from years of exposure to the elements.
● The fly fishing basket was Laura’s father’s for catching trout in this very river.
● The front porch was added on at some point; it was not original to the 1955 cabin. If you
go on the porch, you can see the original roof on the wall. When the porch was first
added, it was an open plan. In 1988, Laura’s father and grandfather added screens and a
front door. When the cabin was remodeled, the plexiglass, heater, and flashing around
the bottom were added to turn the porch into a three season room. With the glass
retracted on the storm door to reveal the screen, it is still easy to hear the sounds of the river.

● The porch has an opening which once was a window. It is now corrugated metal from
the old gas station on M-32 in town (torn down), the P and L (for Promised Land) are
made from the original 1955 handrail for the stairs, the Petoskey stones were found in
the wall
● The cabin sits on 200’ of frontage on the Jordan River, the first Protected River in
Northern Michigan. We are not allowed to alter the land up to 100 feet back to protect
the river’s water quality, provide fish and wildlife habitat, cool the steams water and
screen development. Only Jordan Valley Outfitters and Friends of the Jordan River are
allowed to remove debris from the river, and then only what is necessary to allow a raft
to safely pass through. Since the time that the Jordan became a protected river, no
homes may be built; therefore, we are one of very few cabins close to the waterfront.
● During our visits here, we’ve encountered: squirrels, chipmunks, gophers, raccoons,
mink, muskrats, river otters, deer, elk, and bears. Additionally, we’ve seen too many
types of birds to list, but here are a few: herons, mallards, kingfishers, turkeys,
partridge, yellow-bellied sapsuckers (woodpeckers), hairy woodpeckers, chickadees, grosbeaks.
