ANIMALS & NOISE
Please note that in our village, most of our neighbours own chicken (we don't). If you know you cannot handle chicken's crow in the morning but you really want to stay at our place, earplugs might be handy to reduce the noise.
Also in the morning, around 4:30am, there is call for prayer from the Mosque.

Our place is generally pretty quiet as we are located secluded in the village, far from busy traffic. Oddly, the noisiest time is around 4:30am - 6am as the Mosque starts the prayer, the chickens wake up, and the people start their village activities. If you are not a good sleeper, please have your earplugs handy.

As we are located in the nature, you might find some insects around. But don't worry, there is no dangerous or poisonous insects.

DRY SEASON
Dry season (April-September) in Yogyakarta is very pleasant but can get very hot in the afternoon. It is the best time to travel.

WET SEASON
Wet season (October-March) is very special as you will get misty morning and relatively cooler temperature. However, it can get very humid and there will be some problem to keep everything dry.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING RAMADHAN
From 14th of May to 20th of June 2018 is the Ramadhan period. The muslims will do fasting during this time. It could be an interesting experience, but there are some things that might be good to know beforehand.

The start of fasting is at 4am and they break the fast at 6pm.
Every morning around 2am, the mosque will make announcement with loudspeaker to remind everyone to start fasting. Then sometimes the children will play firecrackers.
Also during the evening around this period, the children love to play firecrackers.

During the day, some of eating places are open but some also closed, especially in more remote areas. And it is considered polite to not eat and drink in public.

It is a good idea to bring earplugs if you have trouble with noise during sleeping.

At the end of Ramadhan, the Eid celebration, there will be extremely crazy traffic around Yogyakarta. Travel time could be 5x usual. It is a good idea to avoid Java in general around 1 week before Eid and 1 week after. It is better to travel outside Java during this period.

CHECK-IN TIME
Please try to arrange your arrival time between 6am (early check in) - 11pm. If urgently needed, out of hour check in is possible by using our out of hour pick up service. If arriving by your own transport during out of hour check in time, you might find it difficult to find and contact us as all of us love to sleep :)

SUITABILITY
Our place is located in a secluded village and very close to nature, so for guests coming from completely different culture, please be open to any new experience you might have here :) It might not be suitable for guests with allergics especially to insects, and also for guests who look for comfort city living. We don't have hot water, and wifi is working but not as fast as in the city area.
On the other hand the space allows you to go deep into your very basic nature and appreciate any extras that you are able to have :)

We are Frog House community consists of architect/yoga practitioner, artists, musicians, running a simple homestay in Gesik Village, Yogyakarta. The reason why we decide to run a homestay is because we believe that travellers, in this case we'd like to focus on budget travellers, carry an important role on their shoulders. They move from city to city around the world, carrying their culture, personality, skills, and knowledge with them which then they share with the people they meet along the way. They also give opportunity to local people to get to know the other side of the world and to share their local wisdom. This is where real acculturation happen (not in vague political level) enriching each other, creating healthier minds. So we are very pleased to be able to provide them shelters, food, transport, and would try to help as much as we can. It is also very nice feeling to share our experience of simple lifestyle to guests from bigger cities in Indonesia and overseas. Living in this village makes us feel that pleasurable experience doesn't need to be expensive and luxurious. Here we will outline briefly who we are and our interests: Bagus is a batik artist, designer, and carver. He can share his deep knowledge about Java and its culture. Yohana is an architect, yoga practitioner and teacher, who has experience in living overseas for 8 years. She can help to communicate with locals and understands cross-cultural issues. Malve is a manager of Frogstay who will help you to arrange your plans during stay in our place. He is a cook who can prepare you delicous simple Indonesian meals. Mifta is the youngest member of Frogteam who has joined us since (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) after he had an internship in our place . He has responsibility to manage and communicate with guests through AirBnB. Looking forward to meet you all! Find us on (Hidden by Airbnb) : @frogstay & @froghouse_bamboo
