Embrace the quirky, cosy interiors in this romantic getaway. Open the doors to the terrace, and let the sounds of nature waft through the lodge. Fire up the BBQ, enjoy a good meal and then spend the evening in the hot tub gazing up at the stars.
Located in one of Maidstone in Kent's oldest roads, neighbouring buildings used to provide accommodation to pilgrims on their travels to Canterbury in medieval times. Perfect for anyone looking to get away from it all and for those looking for something different, the quirky interior of the Lodge is an eclectic mix of vintage and modern. It offers a romantic hideaway, with exclusive use of the brand new hot tub jacuzzi directly outside your door, and a low height mezzanine sleeping area on a futon mattress, in the double height roof where you can star watch in bed, listening to the local owls. The fully equipped, open plan kitchen/lounge area is cosy in the winter with underfloor heating, and equally delightful in the summer when the bi-fold doors can be opened up to enjoy BBQ's on the deck. With Wifi access, Bose mini sound system, Nespresso coffee pod machine and a flat screen TV, you can also keep in touch with the outside world if you really want to. The Lodge is perfectly located for those who want a car free holiday in the corner of our 1.5 acre garden, about 60m from the main house. Please note that while the Lodge is completely private the hot tub area is not, as you are in the garden shared with our house. A short walk will take you to the ancient village green of Bearsted with its Butcher / Deli / Bakery and a choice of excellent restaurants. For those wishing to take the train, the village station provides services to the coast or to London, to give you transport choices. 5 minutes by car will get you to the award winning Leeds castle, while a 40-60 minutes drive will take you to the many beautiful historic towns of Kent including Tenterden, Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells, as well as the beautiful Kent coast line and the EuroTunnel. Perfectly located for weddings and celebrations at the award winning Orangery in Maidstone, why not make a holiday out of your stay? Subject to availability The Lodge can be booked in conjunction with it's sister property 'Knocklofty', a one minutes walk away and can accommodate up to 4 people.
Embrace country life in the medieval village of Bearsted in Kent—the Garden of England. Walk to the village green for great gastro pubs, a butcher, and a deli. For a proper hike, there's beautiful countryside with miles of scenic walks.

Wake in comfort to the sound of the sea, explore the misty brooding Romney Marsh, then warm up in the many atmospheric pubs with intriguing histories, resident ghouls, roaring fireplaces, cracking ales and tasty pub grub, walk along our pebbled beach, look out across the shimmering blue sea and you’ll feel like you’ve discovered another world. Stay at Coastguards Lantern and discover a landscape full of myth’s and legends, surrounded by the haunting loneliness of Romney Mash. A flat, open landscape of wide skies and fields criss-crossed by a lattice of drainage ditches, where yellow waterlilies float in early summer, it offers the opportunity to wander quiet lanes and paths and to visit some of its famous medieval churches and the vast stretch of historic invasion coast. Built in this secluded spot, to help guard against smuggling and invasion, this beautiful renovated coastguard cottage is the perfect location for a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Coastguards Lantern Summary Sleeps 4 people Dog friendly Sea views Beach just 80 meters away Woodburning stove 6 miles to RSPB Dungeness Nature Reserve 6 miles to medieval town of Rye Quiet and secluded location South facing decked garden Nespresso coffee machine Parking for 2 cars Entertainment Flat screen 32” TV X Box 360 & selection of games Wifi (3g Mobile Broadband) DVD Player Flat screen TV & DVD player to master bedroom Flat screen TV & DVD player to 2nd bedroom Selection of DVD’s, board games and books Right beside the sea, near the village of Camber, and with views in every direction, Coastguards Lantern is a special, recently renovated holiday cottage surrounded by wild beauty. To one side is SSSI-designated marshland (Site of Special Scientific Interest). To the other, the sea, so seclusion is a given. Yet you are only a few minutes’ drive to the medieval Cinque Port town of Rye for shops, pubs and restaurants. Coastguards Lantern is a modified traditional coastguards cottage with modern updates layered over its 143-year-old bones. As soon as you step inside, you will note the careful attention paid to this home’s renovation. Dining & Lounging The newly equipped open plan kitchen/dining room has everything you’ll need to prepare lovely meals, including a beautiful Range cooker, Nespresso Coffee Machine, breakfast bar and farmhouse dining table. Why not visit Rye and buy locally caught seafood fresh from the boat? Or some Romney Marsh lamb from the local butchers? Beside The Sea Holidays will be more than happy to recommend our favourites! After dinner, cosy down on the comfy sofas in the lounge and watch the flames dance in the log burning stove—the centrepiece of this lovely space. Bed & Bath Upstairs you’ll find a stunning and modern bathroom with a secret: a customised bath set high enough for sea views to accompany your soothing soak. Dare we say with a glass of wine as an accompaniment? How perfect is that? The large, comfortable master bedroom has a super king-size bed and unspoilt views over the sheep-studded marsh where the local smugglers plied their trade. The second bedroom has two 3ft beds and a stunning view of the sea, plus a small flat screen TV with DVD, just in case you ever tire of watching the waves and sunset! Outdoors The cottage has a decked south-facing and quiet garden, the perfect place to relax after a day of coastal hikes and historical sites. The pebble beach is mere steps away, with a paved boardwalk spanning its length for sand-and-stone-free jogs. Do as much or as little as you like here, with only the crackle of the fire and the crash of the waves to interrupt the quiet. Other things to note Coastguards are old properties in a very exposed location and in the winter months the wind can really howl off the sea - some guests love watching the weather go wild or the sea mist rolling creating an eerie atmosphere, while some have found it a little unsettling. So if you are not a fan of older houses that have history and character then this would not be for you - we do have modern properties down the road that are in a more sheltered environment. The cottages are next to the Lydd Ranges, a military firing range (its also a nature reserve). It has been used for military training for over 150 years and is part of the Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest (it is home to incredibly rare plants and animals) Because the range is used for live firing access is sometimes restricted - red flags are flown during these times, access is prohibited along the foreshore. When firing is not carried out, it may be possible to walk along a designated path along the shore. Feb & Mar 2020 During Feb and March the Environment agency are carrying out essential emergency sea defence works to extend the range of the sea wall to the rear of the coastguards. The compound to the right of the cottages will be where they will be housing their machinery.

Situated at 'The Lost Village of Dode', Woodside is one of two semi-detached cottages we offer situated in complete tranquility at the end of a 'no through road' in the depths of the Kent countryside, five miles south of historic Rochester. Designed very much as a small, country 'hideaway' this really is an ideal place if you're looking for a magical, even spiritual place to retreat to for complete peace and quiet.
Woodside is located next door to our neighbour retreat Hillview. Built of green oak and recycled materials with imaginative use of handcrafted wrought iron work has been used to great effect throughout. Designed very much as a small, country retreat to be 'inward' looking, you'll find that the minute you set foot inside the door the cares of the world melt away as you begin to unwind and soak up the atmosphere with its intimate, almost medieval, feel. Comfortable, contemporary furnishings in all the living space allow guests to relax and make the most of their stay. Great use has been made of the available living space and all the rooms are well equipped for their size. What makes this cottage unique is that it lies in a tiny hamlet known locally as Dode which was virtually wiped out by The Black Death in the 14th century. All that remains of the original village is the small, former, Norman church, which was last used as a place of worship in 1367, then deconsecrated. Restored in the Victorian era, it is now a popular venue for civil wedding ceremonies. The site as a whole is steeped in ancient history, details of which can be obtained from the owner, who is an expert on the subject.
The Lost Village of Dode Far lies far away, in a magical place, where time has stood still, in an almost forgotten valley between Luddesdown and Holly Hill, nestled in the North Kent Downs in the South East of England, there stands a beautiful, enchanting & romantic Norman church which is loved and cared for by your hosts Doug & Mary, it is the only remaining trace of 'The Lost Village of Dode'. This unique, lovingly restored, Norman church, located within an amazing setting is home to our unique wedding venue and two cottage retreats Woodside & Hillview. The two cottages stand just below and within the grounds of the church and enjoy a really peaceful outlook across fields and up to woodland on Holly Hill. It's a superb location for keen walkers with easy access onto the North Downs/Pilgrims Way, which leads to England's premier cathedral city of Canterbury. Although well away from busy main roads, Dode is within comfortable driving distance of a number of visitor attractions, such as the majestic Leeds Castle, medieval Igtham Mote, Chartwell, former home of Sir Winston Churchill, and the historic naval dockyard at Chatham. The cathedral city of Rochester with its Norman castle above the River Medway, is an easy drive as are the creeks and inlets of the north Kent coastline where there are a number of RSPB bird sanctuaries. London, via the M20 is an hour's drive. For a family day out, why not try Howletts Wild Animal Park, near Canterbury, or slightly further afield the seaside town of  Margate (about an hour's drive), with it's many and varied attractions.

The barn, in the grounds of our 15th century house but nicely private, is decorated in comfortable, modern rustic style, with underfloor heating and a wood burner. Outside is a fire pit for toasting marshmallows and stargazing before climbing into the king-size bed, dressed with soft Egyptian cotton. There's a large walk-in rain shower and robes. There are books to read, DVDs to watch, board games to play. Tear yourself away to explore the stunning local countryside, gardens, vineyards and castles or to eat in great pubs and restaurants.
Our holiday let is set in the grounds of our 15th century house, yet it is not overlooked. It has recently been refurbished (March 2017) and we have tried to make it the kind of place we like to stay in ourselves. The large, light-filled, open plan living/kitchen/dining area has floor to ceiling bi-fold doors opening out onto its own garden. Sit outside - choose from the table and chairs or the big double sun lounger - and listen to the birdsong or go for a stroll in the meadow. By night you can enjoy a starry sky by the light of the fire pit, which also has a grill for BBQ - or marshmallow toasting! The decor inside is 'country cool' - luxuriously comfortable and with nods to the area's heritage as 'The Garden of England', including vintage apple crates used as kitchen shelves and a framed photo of workers in a local hop field in the 1940s. In fact our house next door was, until recently, the farmhouse for the surrounding hop farm which still operates in the traditional way - one of the last remaining in Kent! There's a bedroom with king sized bed and garden views. The bed linen is 600 thread count finest Egyptian cotton, the duvets and pillows goose down. There's a Moroccan style shower room. Things are kept cosy with underfloor heating and fluffy rugs, a woodburner, soft bathrobes and slippers. Board games, books and DVDs will keep you busy plus there's free WiFi and a large flatscreen TV with freeview. The kitchen has all the essential equipment - whether you want to cook up a feast or simply prepare snacks to sustain you in between visiting the many excellent restaurants in the area. We provide a welcome hamper including milk, bread, butter and eggs plus a bottle of local wine to kick off your stay. You will find olive oil, salt, pepper, dried herbs and spices, tea, coffee and sugar. There's washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, cloths and cleaning products and, in the bathroom, heavenly Aromatherapy Associates body wash, shampoo and conditioner. We also provide logs for the woodburner and for the firepit. End of stay cleaning is included. John is a rehabilitation specialist and also teaches Nordic Walking and Pilates. So let us know when you are booking if you are interested in knowing more. We can offer private 'Learn to Nordic Walk' stays - a lovely safe way to exercise, to discover the local countryside and learn a skill that you can use when you return home - visit www.nordicwalkingkent.co.uk if you'd like to read about this increasingly popular activity. Likewise, if you have a niggling problem with your back, knee, shoulder...whatever!...speak to us about having private rehabilitation or remedial massage in the studio, which is right next to the holiday let. One-to-one and two-to-one Pilates can also be taught here. Alternatively, book a whole weekend or week long 'overhaul', with several hours of mixed exercise and advice on diet and lifestyle. It's all possible...Let us know what you want and we can tailor something to fit. ...
    * Famous gardens at Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and more * Tours and tastings of award-winning white and sparkling wines at nearby vineyards - like Chapel Down, Gusboune Estate, Hush Heath and Oxney Estate * Castles at Leeds and Bodiam and National Trust Houses including Smallhythe Place, Bateman's, Sissinghurst and Scotney Castle *Pretty local medieval villages plus towns of interest, including ancient Rye and Hastings * Sandy beaches at Camber and watersports at Lydd *Excellent eating out

Relax and unwind in this artist-run bohemian retreat. Tucked away in the village of Preston, surrounded by orchards, you'll enjoy a peaceful 'get-away' yet be in easy reach of local amenities and Kent's stunning coastline. The studio is blissfully quiet, set back from the cottage with its own entrance under a vine-covered pergola, with access to a large garden. Your host is happy to interact as much or as little as you like, and will gladly share the best experiences the area has to offer.
Woodsmoke Arts Studios comes with all the usual amenities except TV, so you can be sure to relax and tune in with nature. There is a contemporary yet vintage feel to the studio which boasts high ceilings, large windows, and has a fabulous Swedish log burner at its centre. Built for artists, it has glorious light throughout which creates a sense of space and calm, all adding to the feeling of being on retreat. There is WiFi but the signal can be intermittent and we encourage all guests to switch off their devices and 're-wild'! There is plenty to do to connect with nature, and books and board games to focus a busy mind. There are plenty of places to stretch out and massage/yoga professionals on call to help you relax. Seasonal craft activities can also be arranged. The luxurious double bed has sheets with a generous thread count for you to enjoy a good nights sleep, and there is a pull out sofa bed for additional guests. The 5 meter bell tent can be hired for an additional fee, which will sleep 2-4 extra people comfortably. The studio has its own toilet and separate bathroom with a freestanding tub in which to enjoy a candle-lit soak. Prosecco and cake can be arranged for a treat on arrival, and a continental breakfast comes as standard and can be found in the studio fridge. Tea, coffee, and herbal drinks are also available. There is no kitchen as such, but there is a microwave oven should you need to self cater. Guests have the use of the rear garden, but are asked to keep noise to a minimum in respect of the neighbours and children's riding school at the back of the property. This is a place that welcomes creatives, nature lovers, and folk who won't mind the odd muddy paw print. Allergy sufferers please come prepared, the pollen count can be high and we do have pets and feather filled bedding. If you come across a creepy crawly we will do our best to guide them elsewhere, but we are very much out in the country! Expect to hear birdsong in the morning and owls at night, and sometimes the call of the wild really does drift over the fields as the lions roar from Wingham Wildlife Park.
Preston is a small rural village with a traditional church, village hall, community meadow, and recreation ground which includes a children's play area. A short walk through the orchards brings you to the picturesque Elmstone, which boasts a beautiful picnic spot and quaint library in a telephone phone box. Within a stones throw of the studio is Preston Garden Centre's fabulous bistro 'Coppers' where you can grab anything from a coffee and croissant to a full roast dinner, and pick up a tropical plant while you're at it! There's also a local shop, butchers, and pub in walking distance, and many more fine eateries and entertaining venues within a few minutes drive. Try The Anchor in Wingham for live music and fabulous pub grub, or Grove Ferry for boat rides or a spot of kayaking. You can paddle up river to nearby Fordwich, as old as the Dooms Day Book, and enjoy Michelin star cuisine for lunch at the Fordwich Arms! Or walk across the fields and relax in front of the fire with a craft beer at the Duke of William in Ickham. Historic Canterbury is a 20 minute drive, as is Sandwich, Deal and Dover. If its Art and Culture you are looking for, hang out in hip Whitstable, visit Margate's Turner Contemporary, or eat fish and chips with an Antony Gormley sculpture in Folkestone, all within a similar distance. There's something for everyone in this region, and with easy access to London, the ports, and channel tunnel, its the perfect place to explore the rest of Europe.

Relaxed home with spacious bedroom containing comfortable bunk beds suitable for 1 or 2 guests, lots of storage,TV and tea/coffee facilities. The area is close to the A2, local beaches and an ideal location for exploring the Island, with a good bus/train service.
I have a generous sized room in my home which is in the quiet village of Garlinge on the outskirts of Margate. The room contains adult size bunk beds and is suitable for either 1 or 2 people, the rent is adjusted accordingly. There is also a mattress so a third person can be accommodated if needed. The room has good storage, TV with freeview and tea/coffee making facilities as well as a small fridge for your use. There is a table and chairs for guests to work and use laptops. There is also a hairdryer/curling tongs/hair straighteners and an iron/ironing board. Maps and tourist information leaflets are left in the room for guests own use. I share my home with my dog who is very friendly so it would be great if you like animals !
Garlinge is on the outskirts of Margate and is a quiet residential area close to beautiful local beaches as well as seaside cafes and shops in Westgate and Westbrook. Margate Town centre is approximately 25 minutes walk where The Turner Contemporary Centre boasts exhibitions from famous and local artists and is well worth a visit. Margate also has some lovely cafes, restaurants and some local pubs provide live music. There is also a jazz club hosting comedy entertainment. Our Theatre Royal is one of the oldest Theatres in Britain and is worth visiting; it has a beautiful interior and along with the Winter Gardens showcases plays, concerts and comedy shows. Margate Old Town is lovely to take a leisurely stroll through and has unique and interesting architecture. It also contains delightful sprawling cafes and quirky retro and vintage shops to browse in. If you want a holiday which is relaxed then Margate is definitely the place to visit, whether for a weekend away or a base to explore the rest of Thanet. Margate is only 1 hour and twenty minutes on the fast train from London which makes it ideal for weekends away. Local bus stops provide easy access to the historic port of Ramsgate and the beautiful tourist town of Broadstairs which has an annual Charles Dickens Week and is home to the Broadstairs Folk Festival. Travelling around Thanet is very easy and convenient from local bus stops. Buses also go to Canterbury, which is well worth a visit with it's historic Cathedral. The quaint seaside resorts of Westgate-on-Sea (with an independent cinema) and Birchington, are definitely worth visiting.

20ft up nesting between three sturdy oak trees this treehouse made of recycled timbers has uninterrupted views across the glorious north downs AONB. Cosy and private set on the edge of a barley field the only sound is the wind through the trees and birdsong. Heater and double glazing makes this ideal in winter or summer, and a chemical loo in the cabin at ground level adds a creature comfort. An induction hob, cool box electric kettle Nespresso machine and music system are all there.
The treehouse is cosy with plenty of space for a couple. There is a chemical loo downstairs in a cabin, and shower etc is sometimes available in the house which is reasonably close .... The idea was to create a relaxing space to read admire the views and enjoy quiet times alone or together. I really hope it works and so far the signs are good. There is no noise, but a village with two pubs and a restaurant just over a mile away.
The village of Elham with pubs and restaurant is just over a mile walk away over fields or country lane. Canterbury is half an hour by bus or 20 minutes by car. The seaside is 20 minutes away (URL HIDDEN) Margaret's bay, Folkestone ...
