Muskoka Lakes, Ontario, Canada

Built into a forested hill beside a river, with a sleeping loft and in-floor radiant heating in a granite flagstone floor, a kitchenette and a three piece washroom, the studio is the perfect place to relax, rejuvenate or retreat into creative work.
Whispering River Studio Retreat is just 10 minutes from Parry Sound and located in a woods of old growth white pine, maple, oak and birch, on the banks of the Seguin River. In spring the scent of flowering crab and apple trees, wild roses, lilacs and pin cherries fill the air. Fall features gorgeous colour on the hills, and nearby hikes feature views of the rocks and cliffs that make this area famous throughout September, October, November and early December. Winter is beautiful too - the season of retreat and rejuvenation is filled with pristine vistas - and lots of snow for the dedicated snowshoe-er or cross country skier! Georgian Nordic X-country ski trails are only 15 minutes away, and can be used in the summer for hiking as well. If you want to enjoy a community Christmas, come and experience the many, many local activities centered around this warm and friendly time of year. You are welcome to relax in the loft, the house's screened in porch, or on the studio porch or the look out and enjoy the gentle whisper of the river, or the wind in the pines. A short walk by the river is beloved by most guests - especially in the mornings when the mist often streams of the water. There is a Heintzman upright grand piano in good condition the house that you are welcome to use. My baby grand in a nearby gallery is also available for rehearsals, workshops and concerts upon arrangement. During the summer the Festival of the Sound at the Stocky Center is home to an International Classical Music Festival. String Quartets, classical and contemporary concert music artists grace the stage, and provide unparalleled musical inspiration for people drawn from all over the world. I have a propane gas stove, washer and dryer, and will provide you with bedding. There is also a BBQ available for use if you want to cook outside. The Seguin River flows swiftly to Mountain Basin Lake - a short 15 minute paddle from the house. You can take trips in either direction. There is excellent canoeing ( although in late August and September the water is very low - but it is still well worth doing the two or three lift-over through shallows), hiking, cross- country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing and hunting nearby. Deer Run Golf Course, a beautiful informal course with a waterfall in its backyard, is just across the road.
Parry Sound is a thriving town. Boat tours, a major classical music festival, and a wide variety of summer and winter sports are centered here. Tours, hikes, skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and water sports, and scenic drives are part of everyday activities for guests in this area. The rugged beauty of Georgian Bay is close at hand, and Canadian Shield country lakes and rivers are here to explore. There is Nordic skiing in the winter, and lots of great winter activities. It truly is a place for all seasons!

In search of privacy, stunning views, beautiful natural waterfront and outstanding accommodation? This impressive architect owned and designed cottage delivers. Watch heron fly into the wetlands or otter swim by. Relax ... you have found "Serenity".
On Otter Lake, we frown on the noise and pollution from boat motors so only canoes, kayaks, sail boats and paddle boats can be seen albeit infrequently. The dock out to deeper water allows for swimming and diving or watercraft mooring. A winding granite lane sweeps down to the cottage/home's entrance courtyard where glimpses of the lake around and through the home can be seen. The cottage/home sits on an exposed plateau of the Canadian Shield at the base of a point within meters of the lake on one side and a bay on the other. Your attention will be captured as soon as the front door opens and you enter the foyer. Twenty five foot high floor to ceiling windows with 8' high and 7' wide sliding patio doors, flanking a granite clad Rumford wood burning fireplace, offer a magnificent outlook up Otter Lake and across Serenity Bay. The stone tile floor sets off the majestic fireplace that features hand cut and split granite stone. This lovely space will embrace winter visitors who want to relax in front of the fire while the snow gently drifts down outside, just as much as those cooling down after a day of summer fun. The Great Room also features a centrally located docking station for your iPhone or iPad that allows you to channel your music through the speaker system or use the built-in iPad or Blu-Ray DVD/CD player to control the 55' Samsung Smart TV or listen to an array of Satellite radio stations. The Dining/Kitchen area, within the Great Room, comfortably seats 10 at the extra-large harvest table and 4 at the kitchen island with direct access to the large outdoor Lake Terrace. The Lakeside Terrace is well appointed with teak chaise loungers alongside complimentary chairs and features a large direct connect gas BBQ, no need to worry about the propane supply! What a great place to relax with a morning coffee or that after dinner drink. With its prominent location adjacent to the Dining Room, the oversized sliding doors equipped with screens create a seamless indoor/outdoor environment for family and friend gatherings. For that late evening bonfire, the Lakeside Terrace also features a natural Rumford fireplace that backs onto the indoor Rumford. The 10' wide and 27' high overhanging roof protects the terrace from light showers. Or go down to the point and the dock where a fire pit sits atop a piece of the Canadian Shield. The Chef's kitchen is designed with the professional cook in mind and features a 12' Brazilian granite slab island so all can enjoy getting involved or sit and watch the "chef" at work. The kitchen has been designed to accommodate a gas cooktop, microwave/convection oven combo unit, dishwasher, wine and beverage cooler along with a wide range of top name small appliances. Just off to the side of the Great Room is a comfortable Muskoka Room, perfect for playing games, watching TV or curling up with a good book. The oversized screened patio doors allow this room useful access to the outdoors in both summer and winter. Continuing on down the hall in the West Wing there are two large bedrooms, each with a spectacular view of the lake and highlights a queen size bed and bunk beds in each room? Also in the West Wing is a 4-piece Bathroom with a vessel sink on a marble vanity. The Loft overlooks the Great Room with a ping-pong table, yoga mats, weights for light exercise, a lovely view of the lake on one side and features a 20' high dormer window with a gorgeous view of the forest beyond on the other side. On this same level, also overlooking the Great Room, is a fourth Bedroom with a king size bed and Ensuite Bathroom with an oversized walk-in shower with rain head, massaging jets and sliding glass door. Back on the main level just off of the entrance making it central to the entire house is a fully equipped Laundry Room complete with washer, dryer, utility sink and ironing board. The Master Bedroom is on the main floor in the East Wing and features a king size bed, Scandinavian high-efficiency wood burning stove, a large walk-in closet area and a spectacular Ensuite Bathroom with trough style wash basin, oversized walk-in shower with rain head and massaging jets. This very private side of the home provides spectacular views across the bay and down into the wetlands, even from the washroom and shower, again, meters from the water's edge where wildlife abounds. This stunning property is accessible and enjoyable year round, so by all means take advantage of the warmer weather, an autumn blast of colour or a winter wonderland. "Serenity" provides enjoyment all year round with something special throughout each season.
What do we love about 'Serenity'? The solitude and tranquility. One only has to set foot on the property and you feel the stress drain from your body. 'Serenity' is very grounding.

Summer Activities Algonquin Park: This beautiful park, which is located about 25 km from the cottage, stretches out over 7725 square kilometres of lakes, rivers, hills and forests. The best way to explore this rugged beauty is by canoe or foot. the park over 1500 km of canoe routes for both the novice and experienced. While hiking on one of the 14 day trails ranging from 0.8km to 11km you can view such things as Whiskey Rapids, abandoned railways and beaver ponds. Mining mountain bike trail is a moderately difficult trail through hilly hardwood forest with loops of 4.7km to 23km. For those who just want to enjoy the scenery and relax the park is a great place for swimming, wildlife viewing, fishing and picnics. There are three facilities within the Park that are worth visiting and they will introduce you to the human and natural history of the Park through exhibits, these are the Visitor Centre, the Logging Museum and the Art Centre. The WOLF HOWL should be on everyone's bucket list of things to do. Every Thursday evening in August, the evening begins at the Outdoor Theatre with a talk on wolf ecology. The Howl attendees receive instructions on event protocol before driving to the Howl site along Highway 60. Then the naturalist team make imitation howls to encourage the wolves to respond so you can hear their haunting harmonies. Note: Make sure it is happening before going to the park. Nestled on a double lot with over 200' of frontage on the big east river, this uniquely cozy cabin has everything you need to enjoy Muskoka and the great outdoors in style. The cottage comes equipped with a 4pc. bathroom, full kitchen, dishwasher, propane BBQ, 8'x 28' deck overlooking the river, smart TV, Wifi, basement rec-room, AC, and washer and dryer. Your hosts live down the street and are happy to help make the best of your stay.
In 2018 we met with our good friends Christina and Wyatt to view this property, we immediately saw what a sweet little getaway it would be for a family or for some pals needing some R&R in nature and we went about buying it that day. Then for the next year our builder- Serge, essentially REBUILT the whole cottage (he has some great stories about the unique features the original cottage had, you can ask us!) and we dreamt up what we would want the cottage to feel like when we walked in the door. We envisioned a modern clean feel, tying the wonders of nature wherever we could. We wanted to portray how cozy and quiet it can be in the colder months, with all the wonders of winter activity just outside the door. AND how vivacious and bright it is in summer months, with hours of fun on the lazy river in sun, peaceful walks in the woodlands, evening cocktails on the deck or the fire pit gazing at the stars through the towering pines. which is how we came up with our (work-in-progress) name - Whispering Pine-apple.The sounds of the pines as the wind blows through is enchanting, and our crazy bright pineapple yellow cottage that we hope will breathe joy into the days spent here.
This cozy cabin is on a private, dead-end, gravel rd. and feels very private thanks to lots of tree cover and adjacent lots being vacant. 4 min drive to Arrowhead Provincial park and Nordic Centre, 10 min drive to historic and scenic downtown Huntsville and 40 min drive to Algonquin park. Great swimming hole right in front on property and

Nestled in the pines on the Muskoka River is this cozy one-bedroom cottage, ideal for a couple’s retreat. Kick-a-root cottage offers the best of all worlds: it is relaxing, tranquil, and private, but you’re only a 10-minute drive from the Town of Bracebridge with unique shops, restaurants, groceries, and breweries, not to mention numerous tourist attractions. Marked trails are direct across the river. For more photos and information visit us on IG (at) kickarootcottage
Kick-A-Root is complete with a new dock, watercraft and lifejackets (kayak x2, with large boat launching facilities close by), bicycles, a firepit, a gas BBQ, two decks, (the back one ideal for yoga -we even have the mat, the front one to watch the sunset), two electric fireplaces, a new 40" flat-screen TV and movies. A pull-out couch is available if you want to bring a friend, or another couple with you. Kick-a-root is conveniently located on Muskoka River (there is a dead end dirt road that separates the front of the cottage from the waterfront), has recently been completely updated with new furnishings to reflect the true north, is clean and ready to enjoy.
With the town of Bracebridge less than 10 minutes away you can have the best of both worlds, quiet, relaxing river side or pop in to town to have a bite to eat or walk the historic streets. There's even a golf course right around the corner from the cottage. There is definitely something for everyone in "The Bridge". There are other cottages/homes on the street with us and on either side. A row of trees and shrubs seperate the property from the neighbours. There are no cottages in front or behind us.
