Arts & Culture

A visit to the Dockyard should not be missed. Here you can take a step back in time with a tour of the Warrior which was the first iron clad, steam driven warship - a masterpiece of Victorian engineering. Further back in history you will find the Victory which was Nelson's flagship and used at the Battle of Trafalgar. It's here that you'll have the opportunity to see where Nelson lay dying and supposedly uttering those memorable words "Kiss me Hardy". Of course the icing on the cake must be the Mary Rose which was Henry VIII's flagship and was sunk in 1545 where it lay in the Solent until it was raised in 1982. The Dockyard is truly worth a visit and one which will never be forgotten.
