Mangere Mountain is an easy walk from the flatlet. Turn left onto Wallace Rd from the top of the driveway. Take the first right up Ridgemount Rise to the T-junction where Ridgemount meets Kanohi Terrace. Go up the grassy bank on the other side of the road and cross the stile. Bear right to walk diagonally up to the saddle, where there is a large tree. From there you can turn left up the grassy road for an easy walk to the highest beacon. Sightseeing

Stonefileds, 56 Ihumatao Quarry Road, Mangere It takes about half an hour to ride there and you access it along the waterfront without any traffic (except for one service road to Puketutu Island). It is a lovely ride and you could stop for a nice lunch at the renowned Villa Maria Wine Estate en route (booking in advance recommended). Otherwise it’s about 10 minutes by car to the Stonefields. This is one of the city’s last volcanic areas where you can see the large-scale remains of stone and earthworks that show how early Maori lived and worked. The 100-hectare area was established to protect and preserve the archaeological remains of the communities that thrived on this land.
