Kaffihús Vesturbæjar
20 MelhagiThe most popular ice-cream shop in town. Most people go there for the so-called "old" ice cream (as appealing as that sounds), it's less creamy and lighter than the regular one. I'm one of the few ones who actually prefers the "new" one, the creamier, the better.

This area, the old harbor, is a very nice part of town. Filled with new restaurants, coffee-shops, a ice-cream shop etc. etc. And the harbor view isn't bad either!
... If you walk to the end of the street and take a right on to Norðurslóð - you'll find an outdoor installation piece, called Þúfa, made by artist Ólöf Norðdal.

This area is perfect for a long walk along the coast and stunning sunsets. Just be careful not to get stuck on the island when the tide comes in!

Perfect for a walk along the shore or even better: a bicycle ride. The trail leads all the way to Nautholsvik beach with white sand and heated sea water in the summer.

The Nordic House in Iceland, by architect Alvar Aalto. Checking out the beautiful architecture, having a walk in the nature reserve for birds/swamp and drinking a cup of coffee is enough in itself. Other than that there are always interesting events in Norræna húsið; literature evenings, concerts, exhibitons, movie nights, poetry readings etc. etc. etc. We love this place!
