The Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居 Kōkyo?, literally "Imperial Residence") is the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. It is a large park-like area located in the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo and contains buildings including the main palace (宮殿 Kyūden?), the private residences of the Imperial Family, an archive, museums and administrative offices.
It is built on the site of the old Edo Castle. The total area including the gardens is 3.41 square kilometres (1.32 sq mi). During the height of the 1980s Japanese property bubble, the palace grounds were valued by some to be more than the value of all of the real estate in the state of California.[1][2]

The Tokyo Skytree is a broadcast tower for television and radio. It's 634 meters tall It's the tallest tower in the world, and the second tallest structure in the world . The world's tallest structure is Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is 828 meters tall. It was designed in the image of a big tree stretching up into the blue sky, and it also features the unique Japanese curve designs called sori and mukuri. The use of a "shimbashira" cylindrical central column to dampen earthquake vibrations is taken from the technique used in Japanese five-story pagodas. With the two observation decks at 350 meters and 450 meters, Tokyo Skytree lets you enjoy the landscape of Tokyo . At the foot of the Skytree there's "Tokyo Skytree Town," a shopping and entertainment complex that has an aquarium and a planetarium as well as many stores and restaurants.

It is said that early in the 7th century, local fishing folk hauled up a statue of the Goddess of Mercy (Kannon), and this led to Sensoji’s founding. Asakursa has long thrived as a temple town with Sensoji, at its heart. Nakamise, with almost 90 little shops on both sides of the street, is the ideal place to get Japanese souvenirs.

The Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum opened its doors in March 1993 as a space to reflect on the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo and envision the city and life of the future. Housed in a unique building modeled after an elevated-floor type warehouse, the museum has been a landmark and popular tourist attraction in Tokyo since its opening.
The permanent exhibition, showcasing original objects and replicas, offers visitors a journey through the 400-year history of Edo-Tokyo since Tokugawa Ieyasu entered Edo. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum holds special exhibitions at the first floor gallery five to six times a year and carries out various other events, including lectures and workshops on the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo.
We hope that the museum can be Tokyo’s center for the creation of new culture and a place of respite for visitors.

We hope that the museum can be Tokyo’s center for the creation of new culture and a place of respite for visitors.
Ueno Toshogu is a shrine in the time honored Japanese religion of Shinto and was built and dedicated in 1627 to the memory of Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542 - 1616), the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The Tokugawa Shogunate, having unified all of the feudal domains of Japan, formed the basis of rule for the next 265 years in what came to be known as the Edo period. This accomplishment makes Tokugawa one of the most famous warriors throughout Japanese history, and his reputation as a prudent and patient leader is still respected among Japanese today.
The main structure of this shrine was rebuilt in 1651 by Tokugawa Iemitsu, the 3rd Tokugawa Shogun and grandson of Ieyasu, and serves as an example of an architectural style representative of the Edo period: gongen- zukuri.
Despite major earthquakes and wars, the structure has remained intact, and has been designated as an important cultural property of Japan due to its representative nature of the Edo period. Many people from all over the world visit the shrine in order to experience true Edo period architecture. Though visiting the shrine itself is free of charge, there is a paid route within its wall(500yen). Visitors are not allowed into the main hall of the shrine, but as people can closely inspect and appreciate its traditional architecture and take pictures, the shrine has become a popular attraction. It’s gorgeous buildings are trimmed in gold leaf and contain beautifully intricate carvings. Visitors are moved by the classic beauty of the traditional structure.
There are also a great number of people who come to pray for a number of reasons such as good fortune; passing examinations; vocational success; longevity; and recovery from illness. Ieyasu is believed to now be a powerful deity that visitors can pray to at this shrine for good luck.
In addition to Ieyasu, the 8th Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune, and the 15th and final Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, are also enshrined at Ueno Toshogu.

The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō (daimyo) of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772.[1] After the Meiji Restoration the house and its grounds were converted into an experimental agricultural centre.[2] It then became a botanical garden before becoming an imperial garden in 1879. The current configuration of the garden was completed in 1906. Most of the garden was destroyed by air raids in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The garden was rebuilt after the war.
The jurisdiction over the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Kyoto imperial garden was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1947.
On May 21, 1949 the garden became open to the public as "National Park Shinjuku Imperial Gardens". It came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment in January 2001 with the official name "Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden".
In 1989, the Shinjuku Gyoen was the site chosen for the funeral rites of Emperor Shōwa before he was buried at the Musashi Imperial Graveyard.

This garden is a typical Daimyo(Japanese feudal lord) garden in the Edo period with a tidal pond(Shioiri-no-Ike) and two wild-duck hunting sites(Kamoba). A tidal pond means a pond that are infused with seawater in order to change flavor along a pond by flood changes time to time, of which style had been popularly used in coastal gardens in the Edo period. The whole pond had been reed fields and used for falconry site for Shogun families.
This garden is roughly divided into two areas, the south garden whose center is Daimyo garden and the north garden that had been developed after the Meiji period. After the Meiji Restoration, the garden became the detached palace of royal families and officially named Hamarikyu, which means a detached palace on the coast. In 1952,this garden was appointed as the Special Place of scenic beauty and the Special Historic Site, based on the Cultural Properties Protection Law of Japan.
Now the garden is surrounded by high-rise buildings of Shiodome business area, and contrast between the old and the new is superb.

Arts & Culture
The National Art Center, Tokyo (国立新美術館 Kokuritsu Shin-Bijutsukan?) (NACT) is a museum in Roppongi, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. A joint project of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the National Museums Independent Administrative Institution, it stands on a site formerly occupied by a research facility of the University of Tokyo.
The building has been designed by Kisho Kurokawa. It is one of the largest exhibition sites in Asia.[2] Access is from Nogizaka Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line.
Unlike Japan's other national art museums, NACT is an 'empty museum', without a collection, permanent display, and curators. Like Kunsthalle in German-speaking regions, it accommodates temporary exhibitions sponsored and curated by other organizations.[3] The policy has been successful. In its first fiscal year in 2007, it had 69 exhibitions organized by arts groups and 10 organized by NACT. Its Monet exhibition, held between 7 April and 2 July 2007, was the second most visited exhibition of the year, not only in Japan but in the world.[3]

The Museum was built with the ambition to spread Japanese culture, especially Bonsai in a new way to the rest of the world. I wanted to show both the beauty and the severity of nature that is hidden within Bonsai, even just a little glimpse but to a great number of people from around the world. With that thought in mind I was successful in creating this beautiful museum.
