Right down the street from Chez Oksar is Dino’s. A very Brooklyn-ish, urban rustic vibe, it serves comfort Italian food. Lots of pastas. It also has outdoor dining, both in the front and on the back patio. They are open for lunch and dinner during the week and brunch, lunch, and dinner on the weekends.

This place does an excellent Mediterranean brunch seven days a week (think pita, yogurt, merguez sausage, fresh salads), but get there early on the weekends…by noon or so, there will always be a bit of a wait. It’s very conveniently located just down the street from the summer location of the Brooklyn Flea Market (see Having Fun section). The vibe is great—glazed tiles, throw pillows, wooden beams, high ceilings. They also serve lunch and dinner.

This is a “foodie” destination. Owned by the same team that owns Marlowe & Sons and diner, it features a constantly changing menu of Italian food with a farmer’s market angle. A bit pricier, but worth it if you want a nice evening.

Fun places

A beautiful park and just a few minutes away! Take a right on Myrtle up to Washington Park. You will see it in front of you. A great spot for people-watching, especially on the weekends. We also like to bring a blanket and some food and picnic when the weather is nice.

I love popping in here with a cup of coffee and just browsing all the tables of books. A great selection of fiction and nonfiction, plus an excellent children’s section. They also host a lot of events that feature some genuine literary luminaries, so check out their website!
