A little about Levens

About Levens Village
Where is Levens?
North of the Morecambe Bay estuary, between the Rivers Gilpin and Kent, six miles south of Kendal and just on the southern boundary of the Lake District National Park
History
Recorded as Lefuenes in the Domesday Book, the friendly village of Levens was formerly known as Beathwaite Green until the Parish was created in 1836. Covering a swathe of the Lyth Valley, famed for its pretty damson trees, between the Rivers Gilpin and Kent, the Parish includes Levens Hall, pasture farming, woodland and low fells. Traces of settlement here since the Bronze, Iron, Romano-British and Viking Ages have been found.
Walks

Rare plants nestle on neighbouring Scout Scar and Whitbarrow Scar with their limestone pavements; unusual goats and deer frequent Levens Hall Park where the Hall displays its famous topiary gardens; Sizergh Castle, gardens and estate are also a short walk away.
