My go to coffee shop in the area for food and ambiance is Birds and the Beets (across from Milano)
Nelson the Seagull on Carrall is funky.
2 blocks west on Cordova is Timbertrain Roasters & Revolver Coffee. These are both fancy coffee shops - lots of choice. Revolver is for coffee connoisseurs.
Coffee Bar on Water Street is a great spot for sitting and using wifi.
Grocery Store - Nesters Market on Cordova/Abbott Street is nearest grocery store.
Liquor store - The city tries to keep liquor stores out of the DTES area. Closest liquor stores are at the end of Water Street & Cordova or on Abbott Street south of Pender Street

Bao Bei - Modern Chinese and great cocktails. The Ramen Butcher - Great Ramen.
Virtuous Pie - Vegan Pizza.
