uerto de la Cruz is a city on the north coast of Tenerife. It is known for its dark volcanic sand beaches and the immense zoo Loro Parque. It offers a very leafy and green landscape compared to the south of the island.
Facing the sea is Lake Martiánez, a complex of salt water pools designed by the architect César Manrique. The old port houses a 17th-century customs house and the Santa Barbara Battery, a deteriorated 18th-century fortification.
