Sutro Baths opened to the public on March 14, 1896 and was then the world's largest indoor swimming pool. It was built by the former mayor of San Francisco, but burned down in 1967. The oceanfront ruins are now a picturesque landmark and a great stop on the way to a meal at the Cliff House, or during a Land's End hike.
