This is a popular, favorite local beach. Both local residents and tourists love this beautiful, little beach on the famous Alii Drive. Named both Magic, and or White Sands Beach. The meaning behind Magic Sands Beach is because the disappearing sands during the winter months. Definitely go visit this beach during your stay here in Kona.
This was the first beach I went to when moving to the island back in 1985. My parents owned and ran a Kau Kau food truck on this very beach for our first few years living in Kona. It was the best local hang out for swimming, boogie boarding, body surfing, volleyball, frisbee, sunbathing, even some fishing off the lava rocks.
Magic Sands Beach is known for its strong undercurrent which is something tourist don’t take seriously, but definitely need to be aware of. Don’t swim too far out or get carried away while playing in the awesome surf. Respect the ocean and it’s power and you’ll be fine.
Have fun in the sun.
