Hendrik Conscienceplein is one of the most romantic spots of Antwerp. Very close to the Grote Markt but less crowded.

St. Anna’s Tunnel is an underpass in the Belgian city of Antwerp, which connects the left bank of the Scheldt River with the right. The plans for connecting the two banks of the river were made back in 1874 with a bridge, however, since it would deter shipping traffic - an underpass was built instead. A unique feature of the tunnel are the real wooden escalators, which were the only of their kind when the tunnel opened in 1933. It is a living piece of history in Antwerp’s heart.
The tunnel is still used today by people who want to cross the river. In addition to its utilitarian purpose, the tunnel is also a coveted spot by directors and photographers who use it for shoots and locations. The gorgeous woodwork of the escalators is still well-preserved, which makes it a sight for anyone used to the more modern escalators. The area of Linkeroever is near the tunnel and there are some nice places to explore here. There is also the small beach of Sint-Annastrand closeby, which is a serene spot to explore.

The story of the young boy Nello and his dog Patrasche is famous all over the world.
Nello and Patrasche are the main characters in the 1872 novel A Dog of Flanders. The story takes place in Hoboken and Antwerp. The Cathedral of Our Lady and various paintings by Rubens play an important role in the novel.
Nello, a poor orphan boy, becomes friends with Patrasche, an abandoned cart dog. They walk to town together every day. They often visit the cathedral, where Nello admires the paintings by Rubens. Due to a series of setbacks, the lives of Nello and Patrasche end in that same cathedral. They die together from hardship.
This moving and atypical Christmas story holds a message of pride and unconditional friendship. The story is very famous in Japan.
