Playa is more city like than Tulum, but it still makes for a nice afternoon strolling by the Quinta Avenida. Great beaches, and fantastic nightlife (more mainstream than Tulum).

Bikes during the day, taxi during the night
There are a few places near the city center to rent bikes. It's a great way to mover around, but I would avoid it during the night. Driving is not the best in the city and taxi's are cheap and safe.

Getting to Tulum from Cancun Airport
We recommend three ways to get to Tulum from Cancun Airport:
1.- ADO buses. Cheapest way, you'll pay less than $300 MXP per person. ADO leaves out of Cancun airport five times a day. Check the schedules at their website (www.ado.com.mx).
2.- Private Shuttle. The most comfortable option. There are plenty of services, we use Cancun Elite (www.cancunelite.com). Be sure to reserve online, you can do roundtrips.
3.- Rent a Car. There are plenty of car rentals in Cancun Airport. I recommend sticking to the big global brands (Alamo, Hertz, Dollar) and to pre-pay on high season.
