Schwabing might be the most characteristic neighbourhood in Munich. It hosts several mansions from the "Gründerzeit", which describes the time of the German industrialisation in the 19th century. Company owners built large mansions in order to show off their new wealth - and that is how Schwabing got its character with many buildings in the style of Baroque Revival architecture and Jugendstil.
