A trip to Lindisfarne (Holy Island), with its drive over the causeway is a must. A truly historic place dating back to 635AD. See the Priory, Castle, quaint village and gift shops and places to eat. Enjoy a walk along the glorious beach around the island.
In 635AD Saint Aidan came from Iona and chose to found his monastery on the island of Lindisfarne. From here the Christian message flourished throughout the world.

The Hirsel Estate, owned by the Douglas Home family has a centre for Arts and Crafts offering an array of workshops where visitors can see items being hand-made by skilled craftspeople. The centres other attractions include tearooms, a museum, children's play area, picnic areas and fine walks around the lake (loch) and admire the huge rhododendrons.
