Awesome little eatery with great views of Hot Water Beach. Owned and often hosted by an old Bonanza celebrity it boasts the best wine list around. And the food is good. The gift shop is also worth a visit

Good dining option in Tairua. We often stop there for lunch on the way home if we have been to Thames. There is nowhere worth in Thames.

Neighborhoods
Our little Coastal Village is mainly a holiday home hub. Only a very of the properties are occupied year round. In warm months and some holiday weekends it can feel very busy, but in off season it is a sleepy and peaceful little place. One little hardware store, a restaurant, and a fish and chip shop keep the little country general store company. Oh! And one world class restaurant!

Whitianga is a very small town ventured around tourism and fishing. It is famously a small drinking town with a large fishing problem. You can access the restaurants, tour operators, tiny cinema, liquor stores, two major grocery stores and boutiques by the no-vehicle ferry which leaves from Ferry Landing or make the 40 minutes drive.

Coroglen Farmers Market
1876 Tairua Whitianga RdIf you’re here a Sunday morning the weekly farmer’s market is worth a visit.
A must-see in New Zealand. Famously a location in Prince Caspian, The Chronicles of Narnia. There are a few ways to get there. If you like walking, you can park for free in Hahei Village, or for a fee on Lees Road. (If you park at the paid parking on Lees Road you will not be able to take the water taxi back to your car.)
If you park at the free lot in Hahei Village you can pay to take the shuttle to the top of the hill and shave 20 minutes off the walk, or you can begin the walk at the beach for free.
If you are not much of a walker, park at the free lot in Hahei Village and take the water taxi from Hahei Beach. In the off season, check if it is running.

The hot springs at Hot Water Beach make it a very cool place to visit at low tide or 2 hours either side of low tide. Dig in the sand (we have shovels for you to use) and feel the hot springs merge with the cool waves.
It can get incredibly busy at low tide.
