Mumbles used to be a quiet fishing village and despite a 21st century upgrade, it retains a lot of the quaint character of a small community. Along with the Costa Coffee and Tesco Express, you'll find many independent shops and galleries offering local produce, art and craft. From your base in West Cross, you can walk the promenade along the broad sweep of Mumbles Bay, reaching Mumbles in about 23 minutes - unless you stop for a drink at the West cCross Inn along the way!
Mumbles is a must visit any time of day, any time of year. Enjoy a cooked breakfast at Trams, a light lunch at Croeso Lounge or evening meal The Mediterranean. Don't forget to stop for a taste of legendary icecream at Joe's Icecream parlour or a coffee at Verdi's cafe. You can walk it all off with a stomp along the coastal path to Limeslade, but be careful, when you get there, you'll discover the Castellamare Pizza restaurant!
Mumbles is the place to go for your grocery needs too. I can recommend the quality of vegetables and fruit at The Choice is Yours and for delicacies, try Olives and Oils on Newton Road. You'll need some Welsh goodies to take back and enjoy at the flat :)

Either route involves a bit of a hike but it's really worth it. While geologists rave over the oxbow lake and climbers love the cliff formation which has made it a world-renowned spot, you don't need any special skills to recognise to insane natural beauty of this famous beach. Check out Pennard Castle too, for a slice of Gower history.
