Sightseeing

This is a six minute drive from Modern Vintage.Drive past Culdrose and take the second turning right signed Gunwalloe. Drive through the village, past the Helzepheron pub up hill to a large house at the apex .Keep driving til the road starts to drop down and keep your eyes peeled on a partially hidden lay by on your right . Park there and you will find a path leading to the coast path . Turn left and walk to Gunwalloe {20 mins] Make sure you walk onto the headland a favourite place to see Kestrels. The coast path in spring is bouncing with cushions of sea pinks and cow parsley plus big clumps of violets and wild orchids. In Autumn the wild flowers have seeded and pale straw coloured meadows are spiked with gold and russet seed heads with dramatic skies . You will arrive in dollar cove ,so called because of the wreck of a Spanish ship loaded with silver dollars . Next to this beach are toilets and a NT cafe and a very old church on the main beach . This was where John Betjeman wrote " I must go down to the sea again . The lonely sea and sky ....." The church was placed here so that those who lost their lives to the sea could be buried looking towards it . It was also the film location for some of the wedding scenes in Poldark . ]
