Sightseeing

Right down the street from the Airbnb is Kern River Outfitters. They are the highest rated rafting company in Southern California and offer many different outings from just a few hours to a couple days ranging from beginner Class II to high thrills Class V. Staff is friendly, educated, and well-traveled. Advanced bookings are recommended. Full disclosure: This is my business.

Snag a burrito at the walk up window at El Rio, walk across the street into the park and hang out by the river while you eat. I'm not sure if it's legal to have a cold beer here too but I doubt anyone will care. This is one of the few places with an abundance of grass, so it's easy to lounge out and enjoy.

Lake Isabella (the lake, not the town) is just a few minutes away and if the lake level is up, is worth the visit. Tillie Creek boat launch is your best bet as you can drive up right to it, there are no parking fees and if you have a SUP or kayak can launch really easily. Kern River Outfitters has rentals for both, just tell them you're staying at the airbnb and they'll give you a discount too.

Food scene

Whenever I have friends in town that have never visited the area, this is always the go-to. World class beer (literally, the prestigious awards they win are numerous) and the food is delicious.

Ewings makes a strong margarita that can easily be shared. (Probably should be shared if you're driving.) They're famous for the outside patio which has an incredible view of the Kern River and Ewings Rapid.

Best breakfast burrito in the Kern River valley. I've never actually dined here, only ordered to go, and I usually eat it in the Kernville Park, just a short distance away.
