When touring around Sheeps Head peninsula, start in Durrus village and head out west along the coastal road. On the way you will find this beautiful village called Ahakista. There's a harbour there too.

Road trips (by car, bicycle or motorbike) around Sheeps Head peninsula is our favourite thing to do any time of year. The beauty of the journey is that the roads are right on the coast and there are so many lanes one can take to find little secluded spots and secret locations where a picnic or a hot coffee in your flask won't go amiss, just to enjoy the discovery of a cove or beach or steep cliff. Wonderful experiences can be had just by exploring the coast. Depending on the time of year and the weather, if you arrange the trip to coincide with catching the sunset, it is a real blessing.

This is on the walking trail to the Sheep's Head lighthouse just past Lough Akeen. Dress warm and take extra layers because it can get windy out there.

City/town information
Bantry is the main town from Sheeps Head for getting shopping and supplies. Supervalu and Lidl are 2 stores that offer everything you will need for your vacation, plus there are numerous shops, a butcher, fishmonger, pharmacies, cafes and eateries. Fridays is market day in Bantry. It's also where the Banks and ATMs are. A stroll around town and Wolfe Tone square won't hurt.
