First class baked goods, great coffee -- right up the street. Sometimes it's a bit time-consuming, so be aware of that.

Fine dining with a casual appearance and dress-code. The Admiral stands up to any of the best dining experiences most people can hope to have.
Reservations are very difficult to obtain (try Open Table) however, there is first-come, first-served bar seating. Early and late seatings (before 6:00pm, after 9 or 9:30pm) are easiest.
In our experience, dinner is a 2-hour affair. Average price per person (2017) is in the neighborhood of $100.
Don't be put-off by the exterior appearance, which is funky, to say the least.
Money and time well spent ? YES !

Fig is quite good and a place we frequent. It's small and comfortable.
Try the pastrami sandwich at lunch time and don't forget the french fries with truffle-oil !
Everything else on the menu is quite good.

Live theater.
This company is excellent and was quite a surprising find (for us, anyway) in a city Asheville's size.

Sightseeing
A drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, while popular with tourists, is also popular with locals -- and it's really beautiful and slow-paced. The Parkway can be driven in segments of a few miles each, so you're not committed to really long excursions if that's not what you like. Parts of the Parkway are closed from time to time, depending on weather conditions, but maybe that's part of the fun, not knowing exactly what you'll find. It might be fun to plan a drive there between two points of other interest.

The Biltmore Estate (house and grounds) is pretty amazaing, if you like touring historic places. Pricey, but you can get your money's worth by planning a full day.

If you've never been to a Grand Bohemian Hotel...they're quite interesting just to visit.
The staff are most welcoming to visitors. In addition to the unique lobby / lounge area, each floor of the hotel is filled with interesting and eclectic fine art.
The restaurant is okay, but not great.
