Devil's bridge, also known as Pontarfynach, is a famous waterfall and the three bridges overtop of it. Legend has it that the devil himself built the first bridge, hence the name. This popular destination has several walks around the myriad waterfalls and bridges. There is also a cafe for those who wish to have tea after a pleasant walk.

A historic Abbey set in the beautiful Welsh countryside, Strata Florida, also known by it's Welsh name of Ystrad Fflur, offers a great insight to Welsh history and culture. Not only was it the most famous abbey in Mid-Wales, it also houses the burial places of many a Welsh prince. The monks there used to use Aberarth (a mile or so from Aberaeron) as their port to Ireland and beyond. The walk is a few days long, so they stayed in little stone huts along the way, called Mynachtys, which is why the pub 100 yds from Yr Harbwr is called the Monachty!

This historic railway runs from Aberystwyth to Devil's bridge giving views of stunning Welsh landscape on the way. With rides operating through out the year, with special events held at Halloween and Christmas, this isn't one to miss. It's a bit cold in winter as the carriages are open at the sides, but in summer there are few greater pleasures than travelling through the Cambrian hills on an historic steam train to Devil's Bridge.

While the beach at Borth, just north of Aberystwyth, may seem like an unsuspecting stretch of pristine sand, at low tide this beach reveals a collection of petrified tree stumps, a remnant of an ancient forest. It's easy to see how this ghostly sight might have influenced the Welsh folk tale of Cantre'r Gwaelod- the sunken city under Cardigan Bay.
