My favorite place in Keene
Whether it's a sunny day or a rainy one, independent bookstores are some of my favorite indoor spaces in which to spend time. The staff are welcoming, well-read and always happy to help us choose a gift or browse to find something on our own. This spacious bookstore has an attached indoor cafe and is on a street with several cafes just steps away that have outdoor seating.
This charming independent bookstore is a wonderful place to browse and find a book to take home. If you're looking for a book for someone else, the friendly, knowledgeable staff is always ready to assist.

My favorite outdoor places (beautiful walks in Keene)
Practically on our doorstep, this beautiful park is filled with hiking trails that offer views of the hills surrounding Keene and a quiet lake. The park also has a tennis court, public swimming pool and a children's playground. In winter, you'll see children sledding down the hill and, if the town has indicated that it's safe enough, you might even see families skating on the pond.
If you decide to take a walk through these beautiful woods (or, for that matter, stroll through our garden), please remember to use insect repellent to avoid getting bitten and for your safety.

We enjoy walking and we sometimes walk to this trail, on bright, sunny days, follow it for a bit, and then, on the way back home, we stop to get a bite at one of the outdoor cafes downtown.

This beautiful wooded area is just uphill from our home and on many a clear day, we’ve taken the short loop that climbs through the woods to an open rock that provides a wonderful view of the city.

Mt Monadnock is a popular peak that affords gorgeous views and several hiking opportunities, as well as skiing and winter sports. On a clear day in winter you can see the peak from the sidewalk that leads to our home from downtown. A short drive away from our home.

An artsy, historic New England town, situated close to the McDowell colony. If you haven't had time to visit the Toadstool Bookshop in Keene, visit it here! Stroll around the quaint old town or, if you're in the mood for a longer hike, visit the nearby forests or trails. If you enjoy the theatre, check if the Peterborough Players have something to offer. The Waterhouse is a wonderful restaurant with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. About a half hour away from our home.
