It’s been a year since the “Ocean Pursuit,” a commercial scallop boat, wrecked in Oregon Inlet. The 73-foot-long steel-hull ship ran into shallow water along the northern edge of the navigation channel on March 1, 2020 and the crew had to be airlifted to safety by U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. Since then, the Ocean Pursuit has become a local attraction as it slowly sinks deeper and deeper into the beach about a half-mile south of Cape Hatteras National Seashore Ramp 4 on what’s known as the Bodie Island Spit. (If you’re going looking for the wreck, park in the Ramp 4 lot just north of the Marc Basnight Bridge and walk about a half-mile south on the beach). In the days after the vessel ran aground, its owners told the Coast Guard and National Park Service they were working on a plan to remove it. One year later, nothing has been done.

Food scene

Sam & Brad said the food was amazing! Best they had during their stay. The only drawback is the dining room is very loud, so this may not be the spot for a romantic evening, but the perfect place for foodies!

Beth… We are here twice. Was great both times. Very good food, great service and live music. Not sure if live music is all nights. The Village Table and Tavern we sat outside on their deck for dinner and the sunset was beautiful! They also have an outside bar, so people can have a drink on the lawn and watch the sunset even if they are not dining there.

Beth & Steve~ Backside Bar, Roadside Bar & Grill. On Sunday night after the beach ride we tried a number of places but they were either closed on Sunday’s or not taking more reservations. We finally stopped at Backside Bar and had shrimp and clams, music and a few cocktails. It was good but not too filling!
