Sightseeing Around The Stay

A collection of a locals favourite places to see .
If you are an avid scenery addict, then Rocky Cape National Park certainly won’t disappoint! https://parks.tas.gov.au/explore-our-parks/rocky-cape-national-park/rocky-cape-national-park-walks Be sure to get your parks pass, then spend some time exploring the stunning coastal landscape. My favourite is the trek to Rocky Cape. Choose either the inland or coastal route. You will have to conquer the return trip, which can take up to 6 hours, but if you can arrange collection at Rocky Cape, this is a much easier option. Approx 15kms 3 hrs one way/ 6 hr return , but if you choose to take a few of the extra side tracks, like Doone Falls, Broadview Hills, Anniversary Bay, it can take well beyond half a day!

The Banksia Grove circuit is a small adventure, approx 2.5kms. There are steps and small, steep inclines along the short journey., so a great way to warm the kids up! The track connects back towards the coast, to Lee Archer Cave, an Aboriginal shelter. A platform allows viewing of the cave while protecting midden material. Please keep to this platform. After returning to the trail junction, it climbs down to Wet Cave, from the track drops down to the coast before returning to the Sisters Beach.

Postman’s Track Start point is at the official car park , which is a few metres drive east of Lake Llewellyn. Otherwise, you can walk from Sisters Beach Stays, in to the national park through the far eastern end of beach and head uphill and back track back. This is a a great coastal track that connects Sisters Beach and Boat Harbour. Be aware of the tides as there are alternate tracks available during high tides.

Doone Falls and Anniversary Bay . Approx 8km loop, starting opposite the toilet block at Boat Ramp . Accessed via Broadview Hill, which has clear signage to Doone Falls and Anniversary Bay. Covering both inland and coastal tracks, this is by far my favourite.

A super swift 20 min drive from the stay. Open 10am - 3pm Thursday to Sunday, get up close and educated around our giant freshwater crayfish - exclusive only to northern Tasmania and the critically endangered Orange Bellied parrot. The Lobster Haven operates and relies solely upon the dedication of volunteers, has an on site café . Enjoy scenic views of adjacent farmland while you dine on traditional country Devonshire options.

Sightseeing Half Day & Full Day Trips

These places come highly recommended. As a born and raised local, you can trust our suggestions!
HALF DAY Looking for half day drive ideas? Stanley must be top of the list! Breakfast at Marleys café hike the nut, then spend an hour or two in Highfield House . There is a guided tour option, but if you love learning about our regions treacherous history, I highly recommend doing the house at your own pace . There is a lot of reading to do and take the time to really feel the experience . Pack a lunch or head to the hotel on the main street for a beautiful meal. Be sure to wander through Providore 24 for local products and artisan goods. Swing by Gullivers Rest on your way out (East Inlet on your drive back out the neck of Stanley) and dip your feet in the ocean. Enjoy looking back at the scenery.

HALF DAY Mawbanna is 61kms from Sisters Beach Stays. About a 50 min drive west. One of the large drawcards to the small township is Blue Hills Honey, a third generation, global export award winning operation, working respectfully and sustainably out of the genuine Tarkine region. Join a virtual bee keeping experience, sample the showcase and array of honey mead, lunch or great coffee and icecream at the connecting café The Colony . Further 6km drive and you’ll find the Dip Falls. Experience from the base of the falls, which has and above from a viewing platform. Further on about 1km down the gravel road is the 'big tree' - a 400 year old giant Eucalypt. You can go home via New Haven Rd (gravel road for 15km) if you feel confident taking cars off the sealed roads.
