Essendon is a small and pretty hamlet outside Hatfield. There is a village pub The Rose & Crown that has recently been refurbished with excellent restaurant. There is also a pretty church, cricket green and lots of fabulous country and woodland walks.

The Candlestick is a great pub to walk to from the village approx 1 mile, through woodlands and fields. Serves traditional pub fair at reasonable prices. Has small petting zoo, Shetland ponies, goats, sheep etc. Also bingo and quiz nights on alternate Thursday evenings serving £5 meals
