Guide to Annapolis local activities for families

Sightseeing

Quiet Waters park, 5 min drive, small entry fee. There's lots of trails, a large playground, and plenty of space for the kids to run. There's also a kayak rental down one of the trails (nice walk), and they'll have lifejackets for the kids. Once on the water, there's lots of sandbars to explore. Bring bug spray & sunscreen.

Small, with a few things on display, and a very small public beach, where the kids can splash in the water, or fish off the maritime Museum docks. Bonus: it'll be less crowded then the much larger Sandy Point. Make sure to go early afternoon - the spot is popular for weddings all thru the summer. There's also a small, shaded playground around the corner at Third & Chester and the locally popular Davis Pub is a block away.

Built for kids adventures on the water, complete with a mock battle. Always a winner, our friends run the outfit, and they normally host end-of-school year celebration for the elementary school kids, so might want to call ahead.

Check out Old Fox bookstore - a very charming store with a lovely patio & coffee spot. Call ahead - we heard that they've restarted their storytelling time, which will be lovely for the kids. Very close to the Paca House

When I was home with the kids, we occasionally joined their activity programs for little kids. I believe the programs were about an hour long, around 11am, and included a craft, snack, and a walk around the gardens. Definitely need to register the kiddos as space is limited, but highly recommend the visit. However, the grounds are open for visitors - don't need to wait for the kids program! Keep your eyes peeled for a beautiful red fox which roams the gardens.

Bring your ID, and wander thru campus. The buildings are beautiful - don't miss the John Paul Jones Crypt, gorgeous chapel or the incredible bone ships.
