Route 33 can take keen cyclists from the lively city of Bristol to the English Channel at Seaton. The section from Chard to Ilminster follows the old "Stop Line" route of anti-tank emplacements built to prevent invasion during WW2. Originally a railway line following the now defunct Chard Canal, signs of its past can still be spotted by the keen eye.

An area of outstanding natural beauty, the Quantocks, just North of Taunton, are stunning. Providing beautiful walks and cycling opportunities (great for mountain biking), the hills are steeped in history and festooned with free grazing ponies.

The Coast
Our coastal town of choice and only 20-30 minutes away (depending on traffic, it really can vary that much), Lyme Regis has it all.
A beautiful sandy beach, a historic man made harbour known as "The Cobb", many superb places to eat catering for all budgets and a great selection of shops not found on the typical high street.
Totally recommended.

Don't go to Seaton - Axmouth Beach, next to Seaton, is so much better and quieter. Park along the Axe Estuary (where you can find a spot) and then take the 5-10 minute walk to the pebbly beach.
The Axe Estuary is on the Jurassic Coast and a beautiful area of scientific and natural interest. Axmouth has a couple of decent pubs too.
