Barry the owner is a friendly dude. The terrace at the channel is awesome, especially at sun set. The food and drinks are lovely. The interior is a sight to behold. It reminds of the typical local village café’s of earlier times. It’s awesome! And the best of all is…it’s across the street!

At this location in the days of the old E10 “highway” there used to be a truck stop café. My brother who used to work as an international truck driver spend many a lunch (bread with meatloaf) over there. Now a days it’s the place of La Mere Anne. Restaurant La Mère Anne has a Bib Gourmand. The Bib is a Michelin rating for good value for money. If you want a little more formal and a little more upscale don’t hesitate to make a reservation at http://www.lamereanne.nl

Unesco World heritage site The Beenster Polder (reclaimed land) dates from the early 17th century. The polder has preserved its well-ordered landscape of fields, roads, canals, dikes and settlements, laid out according to the principles of classical and Renaissance planning. De Beemster shows very well how the Dutch drained large parts of the country. This polder was set up because the water threatened the cities and there was a need for more agricultural land. A sturdy dyke of 42 kilometers was built around the lake and a ring canal was dug around it. The lake was then pumped out with 43 windmills. On 19 May 1612 the polder was dry. The dyke (Slimdijk) on which your accommodation is situated is considered even older (middle ages). In the Beemster are a few extremely picturesque little towns like Midden Beemster. I’m told that this toen was the birth place of famous Golden Age painter Carel Fabricius in 1622. He was one of Rembrandts most prolific and greatest pupils. He’s well known for his quaint little painting of the caged bird. But also you’ll finds loads of beautiful ‘stolpboerderijen’ or dome shaped farm houses. Even Picasso made a painting of one when visiting a friend and courting a blond dutch girl from the area. Many of these stolpboerderijen are still in use as working farms where the milk is produced for the world famous Beemster Cheese. More info here: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/899
