The village has a Heritage Centre and a variety of interesting shops, buildings and traditional pubs around its main square. Cartmel hosts its highly popular steeple chase meetings at the spring and summer bank holidays.

Guided tours of the house and temple are available and visitors often take part in meditation at the temple. There is a wonderful cafe, great for vegetarian and vegan food. Please Note: Manjushri KMC will be CLOSED to the public for their annual Summer Festival event from Friday29July, to Saturday 13August. The lower woods and beach remain open
